Now 70 I have been raising bars over the last year. Gonna get down from 20+ to nearly 10 due to not being able to bear to stick tall stems on my Italians.

Seeing quite a few vintage bikes here. Are these your every day rides?

They look very pretty, but I wouldn't want to ride one all the time. The new bikes are so much better to ride.

I often roll neo-retro with my Tern Rally.

Tern Rally

I’d love to find an affordable way to get a silver derailleur on there, but I need one that indexes/works with a Microshift thumbie.

You could use a Shimano 6500 or 7700.

Well this ol' geezer was on three different bikes today.

Morning grocery store run on the Azor:

Then a 40 miler on the XL Super shaking out the newly glued up tubulars:

Then back out for a short evening cruise on the Guv'nor:

Ah, thanks! I had been thinking of something new, but I can probably find a 7700 NOS somewhere.

I religiously rotate through my collection; everyone of my bikes was hand-crafted by artisans with things like carefully brazed and tapered lugs, many thinned by craftsmen and craftswomen with files. This attention to detail and esthetics was paid to every stage of the build. I greatly value the components ease of repair and lack of planned obsolescence now present in the cycling industry. So when you say "better to ride" it is based on your set of well understood facts and personal beliefs, but for me "better" is influenced by my personal beliefs. Starting with a Trek 5500 in 1998 (still hanging up in the shop) I bought a new WIzzbang bike every few years only to let it go after a couple of years then stopped after four such bikes.

I hear that sooooo much. Years ago I checked my daily bike logs and found that I was not any faster on my two C.F bikes (Madone 5.9 and Scott CR1 Pro) vs my vintage steel. The steel was just a fast or faster and didn't beat me up like the C.F. bikes. In fact, I did comparison century rides on all the bikes and found the steel was faster for the distance and that I felt fresher at the end than on the two C.F. bikes.

So I sold off the "better" new bikes and haven't looked back.

Another funny thing is this is one of my heaviest bikes yet puts power down so well that I've posted many of my fastest climbs on it.....with a 42T small chainring. This was what I took out today since it was Independence day.

Well I just finished up 10 days straight of riding, rotating bikes each day. So, in addition to the few shown above, here's more I what I ride over this period.

1985 Fuji Opus III with Suntour Superbe, this one is riding on tubulars.

Wayne Evans custom bike running Dura Ace 9 speed.

David Kirk built "Fishlips" bike running Campagnolo Daytona.

Rare Gentlemen's Poodle & Grouse Society Lemond with Dura Ace 9 speed

Davidson Impulse with Shimano 600 8 speed

Trek Y77 Y-Foil with Ultegra 11 speed

Lemond Team Z "LeMonster" with Campagnolo 8 speed

De Rosa Neo Pro with Campagnolo Racing T.

A near mint Gentlemen's Poodle & Grouse Society Lemond, fantastic, even the 1999 saddle! Brilliant stable. I am so jealous you can ride so many different saddles.

Well truth be told that's an older shot of it. That saddle is one I couldn't ride. Sold it off and now there's a nice comfy Fizik Kurve Chameleon on it.

I've probably posted this bike here in the distant past, but this shot is too good not to share.

At 54, just bought my first road bike - Giant Defy. I've been riding a hybrid forever. Long time back problems, feeling the best I have in many years since my 2nd lumbar discectomy in Jan 2020.
