My Chas Roberts bike had a sister bike

Just wondering if anyone ever saw a light green Chas Roberts that had the same paint scheme as my blue one. I purchased my bike in Pittsburgh way back in the late 80's I think. I have ridden this bike for many thousands of miles and it sure is a joy to ride. I never understood why Roberts isn't mentioned in the top bike builders, but anyway, my point is, has anyone seen the green one? I know it sold at some point. I just remember seeing hanging on the wall in a shop that is now long closed in Pittsburgh. I don't think there are a lot of these bikes in the US. Well, I have never seen one in person anyway.

I somehow get the idea that you are a lot taller than I am.

Beautiful machine! I wonder what CR's peak annual and total production volumes were.

Well as I get older, my bike grew. Funny how that happens. I don't know how many Roberts bikes are out there. Way more in the UK for sure. They have been in busienss for a long time, but CR isn't building anymore. Seems GR is however and he built a lot of CR bikes and I think branched out? I am not sure.

I have never seen a paint scheme like mine other than that green one. Would love to see if it is still rolling along somewhere. It should be in the US somewhere.

Those in the know, like you hold them in high regard. I believe we have at least 2 here somewhere. It may be time for a "show your C Roberts" thread.

Don’t know how a lugged 531 can magically be better? Just a great bike to ride. Love that era of Campy as well. Only had to rebuild one shifter.

Yep, steeped in tradition, Roberts, Jackson, Mercian, Hetchins, Holdsworth, Raleigh, Cooper, Ellis Briggs, Woodrup and so many others.

Seems the Italian names get more recognition. Are they somehow better? I don't think so.

Me neither, many of them are just as iconic, famous, etc. That said they really seemed to embrace light and fast and made an arms race out of it and while the Brits wrote the book on it from Reynolds tubing to Raleigh Worksop/SBDU, they seemed to stick to tradition and build them to last, seemingly to their detriment.

The Italians were too flashy, light and fast to keep up with to a degree and they were winning a lot of races with all the brands in the same mindset.

My Roberts is my most comfortable bike. I own bikes with better tubing, better lugs, better paint, even.... had to pause.... better names if some of you want to go there. But, the ride, for me, none better.

Charlie from 1970, purchased off eBay

Huret Jubilee Campagolo mount.

The first one from Hallet’s Albuquerque, Charlie 1978-9. Repainted by Chas, with his decals, ( incorrect ).

Father and son

Chas made this frame for me in 1985. Columbus SLX, Cinelli cast bottom bracket lug.

I think a Charlie, on wall of Sunflower bikes, Lawrence KS.
Some Roberts from Oklahoma and Kansas...
