1983 Trek 720 - ready for rehab
So, with all my other acquisitions adding up, I am thinking of letting go of my 1983 720 that I haven't gotten around to working on. Wondering what it might be worth as-is? I know people ask stupid amounts for these sometimes but also curious what people think would be a fair number if it was cleaned up with maintenance/overhaul done?

Data point: I sold my 720 ten years ago for $1200. The frame was in mint condition and it had nice components (Campy Nuovo Record, Suntour Superbe, Phil Wood hubs, etc.) that were also in mint condition. YMMV.

Another data point: Last summer in San Diego, CA I purchased a 1982 Trek 728 (frame alone was designated 720, full bike was called 728) for $500. Same size and color as yours. No rust, paint was almost perfect on drive side, fair amount of shop wear on nd side. All stock with 700c rims, Huret Fr and RD and centerpull brakes, except for saddle, stem and handlebars.

If you're in a hot market, you might squeeze 300 to 400 +/-. Top tube dent kills the value for me.

That frame would make a wonderful base for someone looking to get into bike packing, or who would like to build a dependable commuter.
And they make these wonderful little frame bags that might just cover the ding and render it invisible. If you're lucky and the straps line up with the blemish.

Pretty sweet old Trek. I haven’t seen any past the 80’s really for sale locally but you might do better selling it online to a world audience if your monitor marketplace or OfferUp and things arent

A few years ago I refurbed that same bike right down to the bar end shifters. Absolute (arguably) best touring bike of the day. A tiny ding would not scare me away. The ride is wicked smooth with that Trek soldered 531 frame. This and the Miyata were top bikes for touring.
