We've done nearly 4000 miles on ours in the last 2 1/2 years.

I bought a couple of French bicycles yesterday from a seller who found them in a sealed storage locker. From I'm told, they had been in storage for about 30 years.

First is a 1973 Peugeot UO-18. The decals and paint are close to perfect. Over all the Peugeot is in extremely good condition. The original Simplex derailleurs have been replaced at some point with Suntour models, though the Simplex shifters remain. Tires appear to be in very good shape. The only flaw I see is a broken right hand nylon brake lever. Of course cables and housing will need to be replaced.
A little TLC and this bike should be on the road. Additional Peugeot photos can be found here:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/stl914/...7635981538294/

The second is an early 70's Gitane Grand Sport De Luxe. I can't pin down the date exactly, but through catalog scans, I figure it was made between 1970 and 1973. The bike's Criterium Violet was first offered in 1970. The foil type decals were last offered in 1973. It looks to be completely original, but not as nice as the Peugeot. It retains the original Simplex drive train, Normany hubs with wing nuts in front and Mafac racer center pull brakes and levers. The Mafac half hoods are dry and brittle.. It is missing the pedals and the chain guard. Tires are rotted. All in all, not bad for $10. Additional photos of the Gitane can be found here:

Thanks guys. Had a bad crash and destroyed the original handlebars, sadly, so she's due for new bars and bar tape. I'm thinking Nitto B-115s maybe?

My younger brother had one back in the early 80's and it sure turned heads everywhere we rode.....
Only thing was, he found the ride on it quite jarring as it was so stiff on the vertical plane because of the Aero tube profile of the frame and the ultra short rear triangle. We also found the Shimano Adamas group on it very hard to keep adjusted right.........still could have been a keeper for him, but he was forced to trade it in for an even nicer Gitane Criterium.......

......works fine. Not as nice as the originals, but it's what I had at the time and
something approaching the original Jubilee will show up eventually.

In the meantime, it seems to be a nice, solid, decent performer.

There's a yellow Motobecane Grand Record I just got running, too,
but I don't have pictures yet.....for some reason this has been the year
of Motobecane in my size around here.

My Pride and Joy

This is a '74 Motobecane Grand Jubile. Found it in the graveyard of a local bike shop. Since taking this picture, I've put the original suede seat back on and replaced the missing bolt in the chainring. Still looking for authentic cable guides. By far my sweetest riding C & V bike.

The cable guides are pretty elusive. I was finally able to score what I needed for my "77 Moto on e-Bay a couple of months ago. Paid more than I would have liked, but I did need them.
