Folks i have a real beauti Raleigh 753 80's bike, does anyone know what would be the best full lenght fenders to use on it, no eyelets or braze on's.
i want to use it next year for audax rides its as good as the day it was made ,love to post a photo but no idea how to sorry.
actuall the only original parts i have on it from when i bought it new is campag reckord brakes and cinelli bars shimano quill 105 stem everything else is new.i live in ireland we get rain here believe it or not
anyway folks any help greatly appreciated.

Metal fenders on a race bike with no provisions for mounting is going to be a real compromise. I don't endorse it. This is an excuse to get another bike.

thanks everyone ,sorry i wont be buying race blades the nut and bold on my campag brakes are the wrong design me thinks for those fenders besides theres too much that can go wrong with then. much rather have one piece fender.

and a LOT of patience.

Any 1980's bike from Raleigh, made from 753, will have very tight clearances. When you put fenders on (if they fit) there is a good chance even with a 23mm tire, the fenders will interfere with the wheel rolling freely. The fork crown and the chain stays will more than likely provide you with some special challenges. Good luck and report back when you are done. I am curious to see how it works out.

That bike wasn´t made for fenders and it´s going to be difficult to install any type that would actually be useful (full-length fenders). As the others have mentioned, the issues are 1) mounting them and 2) tire clearance. It also undoubtedly has a short wheelbase and there will be a good bit of overlap with your toe clips or shoes.

For my road bike, which has minimal clearance and 28's i fabbed up some split fender brackets from rear rack hardware, similar to these: https://rivercitybicycles.com/rcb-cat...nder-brackets/ and chopped up some narrow thermoplastic fenders (Planet Bike, SKS or similar). No reason you couldn't do the same with the narrow Velo-Orange, Honjo or other metal fender.

It'll take some doing the first time but should be pretty reliable once set up. Good luck.

nope still here, but i'm beginning to think your right,maybe i'll just suffer the wet roads.it was no harm asking the question, who knows someone somewhere might have just dicovered a nice set that works perfect.

Quick update lads, just been talking to velo cycles here in ireland who recently done up a lovely raleigh 753 asked them the same question they advised CRUD fenders ,bit of a pain to get pefect but said they do work ok.
i think i'll suffer the rain.

rhm has a set of these (see my post #15 above). He has them on his Basso. They work just fine and are adjustable by hand.

I have tried both Crud and SKS Raceblade fenders with mixed results. Cruds look better and are more effective -- IF you can get them to fit without rubbing. That's a pretty big IF, and I wasn't able to make them work on my bikes without rubbing the tires. Raceblades are less effective at blocking water and look kind of graceless, but you can adjust them so they don't rub your tires. The best solution, IMHO, is to buy a bike/frame with eyelets and clearance for fenders if you ride in the rain a lot.

Well folks thats my beloved Raleigh 753 most of the gear is new as i want to use it for light touring and audax rides and day rides of course.
i did have campag super reckord groupset on it way back even hand built wheels and tubs but as i put more modern gear on her i foolisly gave the campag away for free, yeah i'm a total geek i know but such is life .
anyway thats my 753. thanks for looking.
