It was amazing. I highly recommend these countries if you don't mind the rough roads. I'll be doing Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia starting coming December to February. I can't wait!

digger, there's something goofy going on with your front rack and the front panniers angle. Are you certain things are set up properly? Its not a big deal if things arent perfectly level, but those are seriously angled panniers--or should I say, the photo certainly makes the right one look very angled.

Lol, I am trying to match a Blackburn bag to a generic lowrider. The contact points are the single bidon beside the skewer and a U-bracket that orients the low rider on the fork. To do all this, required monkeying with the BB bag-to-rack attachment system. So the bags sit along the fork. However, (and this being a first concept attempt) I think you are right. While the bags are secure in tilt, I think I can arrange the back in counter-tilt to level the bags with the ground. At least the attempt is worth a try. So, thanks for your observation

Barring a counter-tilt arrangement, the lowriders could be flat extension-barred to the front rack.... This would level the rack and bags with the ground. Ah, the fun of experimentation!

Goog luck, an experienced mechanic should be able to help with ideas if it's not working out.
like I said, I've had some angle of racks on bikes, more with rear racks, but given that those panniers are regular bungee and hook below and regular u shaped mounts on top, the risk of a pannier coming loose from a bump is more with an acute angle, so just be aware.

Thanks, again. I am definitely listening. Better to touch the wisdom of those who have gone before me, than to experience pain myself!

Edit: Just saw an image of another 800 with front rack... using the same attachment gear. A drilled hole in the trailing rack corner seems to be the solution. I will investigate this.

I had much the same angle problem with the Axiom front rack on my machine, as it used U-bolts as well. I had to make new holes to attach one end of the bolts to and they still weren't level, but at least not dangerously tilted. Just dangerous in another form.

Persisted in messing around with the enclosed attachment hardware and rigged a stable extension to almost perfectly level the bags! Bags and bike in diff locations, so pics in unknown future.

Going from NJ to DC (hotels) then on to Pittsburgh via the C&O and GAP (camping) silly question but any chance you remember the tree situation along the rail/canal trails... really want to bring my camping hammock but don't want to have to ride around for miles searching for camping with some trees. Its in August so I do not think I will have to worry about full campgrounds, like I said silly question but you did the trip so recently wouldn't hurt to ask.

I hammock camped the AT in 2014 so I can say that the C&O should not be any problem at all. I tented the GAP and C&O last fall but would have not been troubled at all if I had hammock camped. There are some great spots on the GAP that are almost spa like compared to the AT. hammockforums.net may have more information for you.

Hi Ray, My first night I was in the tent site of the KOA outside of Connelsville. No trees. My second night I was in the campground at Rockford, Lots of trees!! then I was on C&O and the campsites I was at were all with many trees about. To be honest I was in my tent so I don't really look for Hammock trees!!
