Meet Bee...

Meet my newest bike (in terms of my most recent acquisition and it's the newest bike in my small fleet of bikes) - Bee. Please excuse the red tires, they're what I had on my backup wheelset. I named her on my very first ride, and I'll have you know, I've never named a bike before. But this one is Bee, and she's a girl. She's a '96/97 ? Serotta CSI. Bee has an obvious boo-boo, and because of this boo-boo I got her for three and a half bills. Bee rides beautifully.

(Okay, enough with the forced alliteration.)

Eventually I will get the bike repaired and topically repainted, but for now, I just want to ride it. It's quickly become my favorite bike, and while I can't say I ever wanted a yellow bike, this does just fine. I'd like to swap the tired Ultegra groupset on her with either the DA 7700 from my Bianchi Reparto Course (that I'll soon be selling), or I have a minty Campy Veloce 10 speed group cleaned and sitting in a box somewhere, but I'm in no rush. The swap might happen next winter when I'm stuck inside.

I never could have afforded a Serotta before but this one had an issue and was local to me and my size...so, you know, N + 1 and all that.

I must say, it was strange naming a bike, since I tend to cycle through bikes as of late, but this one stuck. I try to avoid naming material objects, but well, I failed.

Where’s the boo-boo? Certainly not obvious in your photos.

The frame is missing a head tube boss, so he used a clamp on boss instead, on the down tube. I reached out to one frame builder who said it would be about a $200 repair, to remove the other boss and put matching ones on. It's more of a cosmetic repair than anything.

$200 seems crazy to replace a couple bosses. I would get the price with paint and old bosses removed and bring it in ready for brazing. Shouldn't be more than 30 minutes work in that case.

Yeah, I do not know how competitive the $200 quote was, as I asked for a ballpark estimate for that type of repair.

Here's a quote: $25 without paint.

With the correct adhesive, a stop can be added without burning the paint and will stick just fine. Metal prep is the key. Hard to believe, but I bonded a right rear drop out to a chain stay without any trouble. It held for about 6 months and then I brazed in a replacement. Just gotta have a very good adhesive and very well prepped metal. I used JB Weld!

For an idea of what reasonable prices for braze ons are, check out Groody Brothers in Kansas City.

Although I do all of my own brazing, I recently sent them two frames for powder coat, did a real nice job. If you're looking to just add some braze-ons and powder coat, I'd recommend checking them out if you don't have anybody local to do either.

Thank you for the recommendation. I'll reach out to them when the time comes for a repair.

Now you need to go the Veloink and get a proper decal created. Funny, I normally don't name my bikes either, but this yellow one just needed a name too.

Go for the drive and head over *by* Madison and go to Yellow Jersey. Email Andy. Save the shipping cost, you get to drive across the state in spring.
