Shave n Wave

It is winter in Chicago, I wear tights and/or long pants and mittens. I still wave and shave, do you?

No I don't wave at other cyclists, just like I don't wave at every driver who happens to be driving the same type of a truck that I am driving....I also don't shave my legs or nether regions. I already expressed my beliefs and opinions many times about what I think about leg shaving, and I don't want to repeat myself over and over. again.

I acknowledge others with a nod, flick of my fingers, or a wave. It's just the polite thing to do here in the South.

As for shaving, we are talking about leg and other body hair aren't we? Yes I still shave. But I find it's more important for the hair that is beneath my bibs or shorts. Hair just traps moisture and lets fabric that should move with the skin rub and abrade parts of me that I really don't want to get sores on.

Just to be more clear, I don't shave clean to the skin. I just shorten the hair with those trimmers that have the combs you can put on them to control the length.

Hairy legs and I don't wave much.
Changing my name to Social Pariah.

Edit: I also dumpster dived and found a pair of Castelli Bibs and Castelli Thermal Bib-Knickers for the cost of getting a little dirty.
Little used by someone who gave up cycling and did not want to sell or gift them to me. For Castelli I risked getting caught in his garbage.

In my region of the World we all wave, regardless of bike. Indeed, we even get greeted by older folk sitting outside their homes when we ride through villages. Portugal is a friendly place.

Shave? Yep, I do, even in Winter. Our Winters are still very Sunny and warm so I don't wear bib's often. Here, a warming cream on the shaved legs suffices. I race so massage lotion is easier to apply and rub in on shaved legs too. Still applicable in Winter for my circa 400-500km per week training. In Summer my shaved legs help me feel cooler in the heat; the sweat wicks off faster it seems.

I never shaved when I wasn't training for racing so when I stop that and revert to being a social cyclist I'll be letting the hair grow back.

Sometimes I wave. Sometimes I wave with boundless enthusiasm. Sometimes other riders are taken aback by my behavior. I don't care. My excitement is contagious.

*EDIT* sometimes I shave

On out and back routes, I ignore the returning riders when I'm outbound and wave to outbound riders when I'm returning.

I shave for neither.

Always acknowledge another rider with a nod, wave, hello, hand flick as it simply seems the polite thing to do.

NEVER SHAVED until some guy took me out during a USCF Race in Central Park, NYC many years ago. Went down hard and slid, got up and rode from the scene on the West Side to my car on the East Side and then drove back to NJ. Got home and into a hot shower and allowed the dried blood/hair/road grim to moisten then scrubbed the crap out. Any race after that was preceded with shaving BUT only for racing.

i am watching out for traffic hazards, so I rarely notice the swavers. They probably have a bad opinion of me, they wouldn't be the first.
