I ran my 73' Huffy Scout in a local TT last year and averaged 19.5mph over 12 miles. Since I am in my early 60s and getting older and slower every year, I thought maybe a new set of tires and one other subtle tweak may let me keep my speed. Looks like the Continental Ultrasport III is the tire to beat.

I don't think they are available in the USA where I am, if they were, someone on the internet would be selling them, and they do not seem to be there. They may be a European market item, or maybe discontinued and just not taken off their catalogs/websites yet. I will ask a local dealer what happens when they ask their distributor for them.

Thanks for the replies! Ive been using 27 x 1-1/4" tires on the bike and plan on using them especially since watching this video comparing 28 mm (1-1/8") + 32 mm (1-1/4") tires on a roadbike with them finding no diiferences in effort needed to petal the wider of the 2 at moderate speeds like 14 mph (see below). They did say that at 18 mph the skinnier tire is advantageous but on my Puegeot U-08 those speeds are rarely reached on flat ground while pedaling. The video also upends my belief that more air pressure equals lower rolling resitance which is apparently due to vibration losses on imperfect tarmac with higher air pressure. I believe they noted going wider to 1-3/8" tire will affect rolling resitance at moderate speeds around 14 mph or less so I don't plan on going wider than 1-1/4" which I've been using. I cant post links yet as new member but see --->
How Wide Is Too Wide For Road Bike Tires? (see youtube)

Went to the local bike shop yesterday and they said none of their distributors have the Continental Ultra Sport III in 27" sizes. Might have to actually buy them from Germany.

Scored a set of Ultra Sport IIIs in 27" today in 1 1/4" size. They will go on my Huffy race bike when the weather up here on the Great Lakes clears up a bit. When I get some test miles and research done on how they work I will put it up on this forum.
