When I decided to try out bike touring, like many, I started with road touring on a road touring bike. Which led to exploring touring videos on YouTube. My first "Subscribe" 7 years ago was to Darren Alff of Bicycle Touring Pro. I eventually found Forestry Forest / Simon Lambert which suited the style I was gravitating towards. Ihoan came next (most will know his story, but if not, check him out). There are certainly others to view like The Path Less Pedaled (some touring, but mostly reviews) and Cycling About with one of my favorites, Alee Denham.

All that said, if I had to pick just one favorite, I couldn't! Simon at Forestry Forest and Iohan Gueorguive of the "See the World" series are both just too good. Simon, although he gravitated away from his excellent cycling videos to Van Life, is still worth viewing to get ideas and inspiration (1 video every 10 days vs a cycling video which takes months to properly plan, film, and edit). His "Going East Across the West" is still my all time favorite touring episode. Has a slightly better production talent in my opinion, but Iohan's video's take us to unimaginable places and situations. Both are what I'd consider hardcore.

I will put a plug in for current and active posters versus Iohan (my hero) who can not post anymore. Foresty Forest is really great although sometimes it lacks the punch but overall I like him...he's a beast.

Giant Cheerio have grown over time and it made for a great channel to follow. She also may be on a minor hiatus as she probably just reached her home in Germany
Cycling Around The World - Jin is such an inspiration to me. Love her style
Velo Obscura - a great real couple of travellers right now in Australia.

It is funny I just realized my top 4 I posted all will undergo some kind of hiatus very soon so I guess I need to find someone else ... having said that I have many others like Duzer etc... but these 4 are my favorites based on accomplishments, devotion and realistic production

My favorite touring videos are by a user who actually posts here on this forum - he goes by the name of smudgy.

His Ohio To Erie Trail video was the single thing that inspired me to assemble a group of friends to cross the state, despite having never taken anything more than an occasional half century. I always look forward to watching (and rewatching) his newest uploads.

I have left out Rolling Existence as my current favorite. They have been knocking the countries out of the park for a year.

For a good measure here are all my bike travel related you tube channels that I am currently subscribed to. There are some that come and go, I unsubscribe from channels that do not post often to reduce the clutter in my subscription feed and then I resubscribe if they start being prolific again.

I don’t think anyone has mentioned the Beard Brothers on youtube. They are a couple of Englishmen who have three or four videos. I find “Hadrian’s Wall Epic Bike Touring Adventure!” and “Scotland Bike Tour - Edinburg Castle to Lock Ness” very amusing.

Bicycle Touring Pro has a website, but word of warning, I was able to get onto the home page, but when I went to click on links they had I got booted out by my virus protection system. I personally would stay away from that website.

I like those who do more than just use a drone. Scenery and panoramas are nice, but I like the riders who interact with the locals, show where they sleep, what they eat.
Forest had some great cinematography, but Iohan would interact. Ryan Van Duzer is also active this way
Before the pandemic there were more "authentic" channels, now, it seems many are doing it solely for financial gain. I especially despise those who travel with only a bar and saddle bag, yet have full size tents and a different outfit everyday.
If only I had the patience, character and time to create a touring channel

I like that guy's videos as well, I'm enjoying his Tour Divide series at the moment.

Francis Cade often credit card tours, and he has some great stuff on his channel. Him and his mate Justin just rode Miami-LA, with Justin in a handcycle while they towed his wheelchair. He rode Vietnam, the US and Australia as well, with various people from his channel. He's worth watching for all bike stuff, though, not just touring.

I also enjoy Jethro Jessop's videos on YouTube. You get the feeling that he would have made a good member of the Sex Pistols had he been born 15 years earlier, and he usually manages to brighten my day a little with his rather British sense of humor.

Anyone else watch Tim Fitzwater? He has a definite US alt cyclist type aesthetic, with those neck scarves and cycling caps, but he does ride the types of bike I prefer. He has something of Yehuda Moon about him? Some sort of midwestern (if Ohio is in the midwest? I'm not American and from memory it's kind of far to the east near New York) alt cyclist, vagely but not entirely retrogrouch, vibe. What is with the neck scarves worn like that? Grant Petersen does it as well as Tim and his mates.

Thre's a guy Cody from Australia who I occasionally watch, and I like to just search Bikepacking or whatever in YouTube, and watch a dozen videos to sway the algorithm into recommending better videos. Always enjoy the really new guys making videos, and the tiny channels.

Whilst I watch and enjoy a good many YouTube cycle touring videos, I still prefer the longer and more intimate details found with reading about cycle touring. The obvious one being CGOAB (Crazy Guy on a Bike). There is something quite relaxing about reading the daily synopsis of a journey that lasts many, many days, months, and even years.

EuroVelo 6, in France, is a very easy ride, must be a walk in the park for Americans compared to the challenging terrain in the US.

On their cross US tour, they became masters at finding and riding rail trails and such. They found a trail the crossed the Olympic Peninsula, then across part of Wash. into Idaho, then having bailed to Kansas City (reasons given in an episode), used the Katy Trail across Mo., then down to the Ohio-Erie trail, then to the Erie Canal Trail in NY and finally a trail across southern NH. It was pretty impressive route finding.

To tell the truth, there are very few YouTube channels I can stomach. Let's face it, it's the domain of the look at me narcissist. I prefer real documentaries where the main subject isn't the person pointing the camera at themselves. Call me crazy.
