Hi All
roytar here. Been riding since 2 years old. I left my tricycle in the driveway one night and my mom hit it and broke the axle pulling in. My dad took it to the "fix it man", basically a guy with a shed on the side of the road with a welder. He fixed it and I rode it until moving up to a 2 wheeler with training wheels. I was the kid on the block that would fix all flat tires after you used the Phillips 66's gas station air pump to inflate, pop!!
Fast forward to 1980, right out of college working my first job in Portland Or., was able to buy a Trek 510 in spring of 1981 from the Bike Gallery in se. I upgraded the wheels to Super Champions, but couldn't afford the upgrade to Reynolds 531 to the 710, had to settle for the 510's Ishiwata 022. I rode the 510 all over the northwest.
Now I'm much older, still have the 510, still riding everyday, just finished restoring and modernizing the 510. I'll post a pic when I'm able to.
I'm definitely a member of the Steel is real club!
