I actually don’t enjoy cycling. It’s just an elaborate cover story for my lycra fetish and eating disorder.

I enjoy cycling for the exercize, and many things that have been previously stated. I also enjoy building my classics frame up and then going on a nice long ride to appreciate my work. I have met some really nice folks while out and about. Where I live , in Southern California , the weather permits year round riding so I get to stay in shape all year without winter lag. At 65 soon to be 66 I can still ride 40 miles with ease and probably further if I set my mind to do so. Joe joesvintageroadbikes.wordpress

The freedom to explore.
The people I meet.
The ability to go much father in less time than it takes on 2 feet.

I Don't Really Refer To It As "Cycling", As That's Now Pretty Much A Pretentious Term, However, One Thing That I Really Like About Bicycling Is The Empowerment Aspect Of It. I Also Like Unicycling But For Other Reasons. I Don't Really Like Motorcycling At All Though.

What I like best, aside from improved health, is just going different places on my bike. You get to notice every hill on every road, every house, every bridge, etc on a bike as opposed to zipping along in a car.

What I like most about cycling is the practicality of riding a bicycle. I can use it for commuting to work, for running errands, for recreation, for exercise, for exploring places,

much prefer to refer it as a 'major road hog user' vs 'cycling'.

I read through all the posts and agree with a great deal of them. But the thing I love most about cycling is that I'm moving myself from point A to point B using my own power. The bicycle is allowing me to be far more efficient than I could ever be on my own, but I'm the engine propelling me forward. I don't care if I'm on a solo or group ride, commuting to and from work or just out with my wife while I'm pulling my dog in his trailer-- I'm moving what's attached to me under my own power. On my Road ID, my last free line reads, "I am my own engine."

I`m inching closer and closer to 70 years of age.. Riding a bicycle makes me feel like a kid again.
I ride in the same parks , around the same lagoons, surrounded by the same trees as I did when I was a kid.
I can almost see my younger self ahead of me riding that old Murray or Schwinn 10 speed.

I'm 58, but I feel 14 while riding...until I encounter traffic; then I'm all "older and wiser".
I spent a year off the bike at age 48 due to a non-bike injury. I gained weight, got depressed, stressed and irritable. Lost stamina, and had a host of age related maladies creep into my life...stiffness, sinus issues, back issues.
It's a cliche, but riding keeps me young...so I'll keep riding!

What Do You Enjoy the Most About Cycling?
Same as back when I used to run distance. For me, I could don a simple jersey, pair of shorts and shoes, and (aside from some water along the way) that was all I needed for the next several hours. Could go almost anywhere. And could keep away from "the things of man." Trails, logging roads, old goat tracks, up in the hills, out onto the beach, along the river ... things get really simple when it's just you and the nature around you.
The bike's a vehicle and, thus, can't go quite everywhere I once could while running. But it's close. And, for me at least, it's just as peaceful. A great way to recharge the batteries, to let the troubles go, to just focus on me and nature for awhile.

For me, it's the ride. Followed closely (and sometimes led by) the climb.
Now my car's in the shop for the next 2-3 weeks, so riding is about - quite literally, putting food on the table. I"m retired so it isn't the money, but if I don't ride, that food stays at the store! Yeah, now with COVID, I could get it delivered, but I have a soft spot for the no car, just bikes, life that has been much of my life.

I enjoy just going out and riding, suddenly it's been an hour and a half and I the time just flows by. I enjoy leaning into a turn, getting on the gas, or just ambling. Whether the two wheels are on a bike I am pedaling or a motorcycle I am riding, its freedom from the cage.

Getting outside and breathing fresh air. Seeing the world. Hearing the birds. Feeling the wind. Smelling the flowers. Touching. Living for the day.

I enjoy reading about it here, especially in December and January.
Otherwise it's great fun.

What i like about cycling, meeting up with friends at the weekend, a nice challenging ride and a nice cafe stop.
What i don't like is when said friends start talking politics, among themselves, because i refuse to do so.

The sound of my freewheel as I coast, particularly down a hill. The alone time without a phone. The scenery.

I love the thought of absolutely pounding my(yours, our)free fatty acids and ketones throughout our mitochondria and maximizing its redox potential. And when after completing a hill and you get just a bit of excess lactate build up, I love that it's being recycled through the liver(through the cori cycle) to make glucose for the next hill. The human body is amazing. Biking is one of the ways your average joe can push it to the limit. This thinking runs through my mind as sweat(H20 product from aerobic respiration) pours off my face and stinks up my helmet.

The bikes and the riding. The quiet of car-free spaces. The mental demands of riding in traffic. The joy of finding a really cool but neglected bike on craigslist and bringing it back to life. The smell of new tires. Watching chain lube debates. Old tech that can be repaired rather than discarded. Descents. Tailwinds. Solitude.
