Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

First longer ride in a while today. May need to throw looks to the wayside and raise my stem a bit. Hard and painful to hold my head up towards the end.

Helped someone cross the road:

No mowing activity today. I'll do it tomorrow, when it's warmer.

A note to the impatient package trackers. My most recent Amazon purchase arrived in Mérida, 25 km away, on the 13th. I'm told to expect delivery today. I ordered it on the fifth. I have Prime.

Apparently, in the Yucatan area, "Amazon Prime" translates to "you'll get it when you get it".

They're trying to nudge me into coming in and picking it up. DHL that is. I can wait. Now that FedEx is out of the picture, DHL is acting a lot like FedEx.

A week of rain, in an area where water doesn't drain.
Or, spontaneous generation, if you will.

Also some small yellow insect got caught in between the tongue of my shoe and my foot today. I have a small bump where it may have tried to sting me. Never had that happen before.

Today while climbing the hill from the house I met a guy on a hardtail mtb and we climbed the second half together. I think it's the first time I've actually climbed with someone I've met up there. Of course, most of them are on e-bikes.
At the top I couldn't convince him to go with me on the dirt descent, he turned back on the pavement. He made some excuse about his wife wanting him home. He'll clearly never make it as a serious cyclist.

Over the last 40 seasons of adult cycling, I’ve caught a lot of stuff in my gaping mouth. Moths are some of the worst with that. However, a first for me was a wasp a month or so ago. He stung my lower lip on the way back out. Luckily, I have no bee sting allergies but I did have a fat lip for a day or so.

Cycling question of the day:

You're waiting at a stoplight. A driver in the left lane rolls down her window and, in a non-hostile but Karenesque tone says, "You know, this isn't the safest highway to ride a bike on. There's a sidewalk up ahead." How do you respond?

Yeowch!

That's new on my list of fears. I'm a mouthbreather on the bike so I've eaten quite a few bugs.

"Cool" or "thanks" and then ignore what she said.
