People are really buying bikes

The other day on the local news the biggest bike shop in town was on the evening news saying that bikes were in short supply. Yesterday I went to Walmart to get oil for an oil change. I walked by their bike area, and there was only maybe 10 bikes in stock.

I find this an amazing but good situation. More and more people will find out just how much fun cycling can be, something everyone here already knows.

People who haven't cycled for years are determined to get fit and they have more time on their hands too.

We all know that OP recycles his threads. Being charitable, maybe he first posted this 6 months ago and we all missed it the first time around.

Someone on a local group was looking for 26" tires because none of the shops can get them. Fortunately for them, they seem to multiply at our house

Woah...such new news. So fresh, so relevant so new and exciting.

Dude we have been slammed for 5 months now. For a while when we could we were ordering 250+ bikes a WEEK and selling them out within the next week. We had people screaming and yelling at us because their bike took time because we had 600+ bikes in the shop and more coming in every day. We didn't have enough staff because we only wanted a certain number of the people to keep staff and our customers safe. We are still wearing mask and gloves and it is hot.

But yeah thanks for the update!

I am not sure if the actual shops are selling more bikes or if the manufacturers are not able to make them as quickly due to the beer virus causing problems. Either way stores are pretty much empty.

One rumor I heard, and this is ONLY a rumor, is that there were some supply interruptions over in Asia because of the virus.

Don't tell anyone I said so though.

It's crazy right, it made me put off buying a new bike. So long waiting lists, I don't want a new bike when I would get it at a time (October) where I mostly stop cycling outside. Or at least wouldn't want to in my new bike in the dark, rain, cold.

I used this time to sell three bikes at a hefty profit. I've built up two shipped eBikes for neighbors, repaired dozens of bikes, and fixed neighborhood kids' bikes (including backward forks, brake pads closing/rubbing on tires, and bent derailleurs).

I'm also completing a Richard Sachs/Campagnolo build for an acquaintance. It'll be done this week, finally.

Now that China has opened up its transportation fully, parts supply has picked up considerably.

Japan, on the other hand...

Yes, it's good to see people love bikes. Nothing can keep one more fit than cycling.
