Aug 21st: SF Peninsula C&V riders getting together

GeneJockey and I are planning a 30-40 mile ride from the Woodside area on August 21st at 10:00AM. It'll be flat/rolling hitting the Portola loop and some side roads off of it. This is an open invitation to anyone that wants to get together for a C&V ride.

1) No requirements on the type of bike, (no C&V police).
2) We will stop at all stop signs and obey all traffic rules.
3) We will plan for some re-group points
4) Goal is to have a fun ride and meet some of the local C&V'ers face to face and check out some nice bikes.

I will provide more information as we get closer, we just wanted to allow people to get this on their calendar.

Looks like fun! I think I can join, but need to check with the social calendar czar (aka my wife).

I’m in and will be on my ‘73 Stella. I may need to cut out around 1 or 2 depending on when we get started.

Hey Alex (@73StellaSX76) We were thinking of meeting around 10. So we should be done by "cut-out" time.

Looking forward to seeing your Stella. I am either going to be on my ~76 Colnago or my 71 Bob Jackson. Haven't decided yet.

@noobinsf - Hope you can make it. If you don't and there seems to be interest, I'd like this to turn into a monthly or quarterly get together and maybe rotate around the Bay Area.

10 o’clock is good, it’s… civilized.😊
Looking forward to meeting you guys. A monthly get together ride sounds good too.

I've got a little over a month to decide which bike to ride. Which means I'll probably decide on the day - whichever bike is speaking to me that day. Know what I mean?

All on-road riding (no gravel)? If you guys get some kind of prospective route map together, post it up here.

Absolutely no gravel. I'm a roadie, through and through. I can't promise perfect surfaces, but if you ride around here, you already know that!

That’s good news to me. Not a big fan of gravel either. My brother and I are all the way up in Cameron Park but I’ll mark the date on my calendar and see what we can do. Nice to see someone starting a vintage ride up in northern CA!

Having ridden for years in the Bay Area, I'd have to say that sometimes our gravel in Oregon is as good or better than your paved.

What a great idea! Would love to join you but am in week 2 recovery of a hip replacement so no riding for me for a while.

Have a great time and count me a “go” for the next ride!

Looks like I can make it! I'll be riding the Grand Record or the Competizione, but maybe one of the others will be road worthy and tested/debugged by then.

Great idea!

It's on my calendar, I'll try to make it, and to confirm closer to the date.

I'll be on my Ironman.

I had a thoroughly delightful 65 miles on my 1989 Schwinn Circuit yesterday, so I'll probably ride that one.

Unless I bring the Cannondale.

Or the Lotus.

Or the other Lotus........

I wish. Great idea! My son is out there now in grad school. Even has the old LeTour I built up for him as his commuter bike. I doubt he would take time from his calculations to ride for 30-40 miles. I would, but I’m sweltering in the middle of the continent, instead. Best wishes for the ride!

I would like to see one of these down here in Ventura County. I did the Brian Baylis birthday ride in San Diego and it was a blast! We had 15 folks and some really fast riders but it worked out well for all. Good luck with the ride and post some pictures.

Hmmm. It's the weekend before I head off for Cino. I might have to attend this one, probably riding the Cinelli.

@squirtdad - If there's enough interest in making this a regular event, it would be great to rotate starting points. Both @genejockey and I ride Woodside/Canada/ and the Portola loop a lot. I'm always up for a ride somewhere new. I can see hitting the Northbay, East Bay, South Bay.

I'm hoping there's interest in making this a regular event.

I'm spoken for that day - out-of-town family here that day, so I can't be there. (The frownie is for missing the ride, not for the family - I like them.)

Yes, I would be interested in any future such events, although my availability through the end of the January on any given weekend is unpredictable.

All -

Even with the new restrictions in the Bay Area, we are still planning to get together since this is an outdoor activity.

We are still working out the details, but the plan is to meet at the Corner of Edgewood Rd and Canada Rd about 5 miles North of Woodside. This is less than a mile off of 280 between 92 and 84. There is a lot of parking on both Edgewood and on Canada.

Again, trying to keep this civilized and to allow for anyone driving in to not have to get up really early. August 21st at 10:00AM.

Great idea and I'll file this away for "the next time" but will be out of the Bayarea on 8/21 so cannot make this one. That location is a great choice for me personally since I have friends I can impose on to let me use their "home base" and only a few miles from the launch pad!

Sadly, especially so since the start location is super-convenient for me, I need to miss this gathering.

That was the only weekend my college best-friend and I could find for me to visit him, and see him and his family for the first time in 2+ years.
