My understanding is that "w/o" meant "Wired On" which was a common term for clincher tires when they all had wire beads. I have a pair of those Araya rims and they have only the slightest hint of a hook, but wire bead Paselas work fine at 90 psi. Just check that they are evenly seated as you pump them up to 20 psi, then they should be good.

Nishiki paint from the 80s polishes up unbelievably well. That frame will glisten.
And I am a big fan of the saddle. That is cool.
If that is the alpha 3000 series, that is the one I couldn't get to work and sent it on to some unsuspecting mystery (misery) box recipient, though co-ops in Wisconsin are likely to have a treasure trove of those freewheels (I couldn't find one except online). https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...3000&_osacat=0
Pretty sure I went with SunTour friction stuff on the bike in question that was a giveaway.

40s paramount
bought this a few months ago, off the forum thread...she had several cool bikes, but she was slow getting back to me ,and I mainly had eyes on the paramount. I've had several early paramount over the years. this is my favorite paint scheme

I've probably picked up a couple three bikes from the ebay/CL thread over the years. This Lyon was posted by Dylansbob sometime last year. It was almost local(about 125 miles away), but the seller offered to bring it by on his way to the airport.
1986 Jeff Lyon. Seller is 6'8".

I believe this was a FB find.
Stripped most of it and SS'd it. Rides real nice when I can. The NDS rear drop out had been welded on the chain stay.

Well this may be a bit of a cheat.
I posted this on the Craigslist post, and I bought it also. The big Raleigh Professional
This one is pretty close to being done. It's mostly Dura Ace, with a long cage Crane rd. I'm just waiting for the time to swap the current cheesy headset for an old steel DA version..

My 85 Vittoria. All original sans grease, tape and cables.
Found on my local CL. All Campagnolo Victrory equiped. Paid the going rate but it was worth it.

This is such a cool thread idea. I check out the eBay/Craigslist finds thread once in a while and this gives a glimpse of what happens to some of those bikes.

A Peugeot Super Competition in this color has been #1 on my 'bucket list' for many years. I had one long ago that was about 4 sizes too small, but even then it left a huge impression on me as to how it rode. I've been somewhat actively looking for one in this color, in my size for a while. The ones I saw were either way overpriced, rusty/incomplete/too rough, too expensive, seller would not ship / could not find a facilitator, "wrong" color (was almost willing to overlook that...), etc.

Again, not nearly as awesome as the PXN10 you picked up, but funny timing, so figure it's worth sharing. If I were in Atlanta and were looking for a 531 frame, I'd consider kicking that seller an offer of $125, maybe they'll come back at $150?
Pic to save clicks, it's got all the original bits, if no dents or dings, it's a solid find for a 6ft guy like me:

Peugeot Super Competition, triple crank, cyclone, make an offer, lancaster pa
Vintage Peugeot Men's Bicycle. Bike was my dad's- he was avid rider / fanatical abt his bikes. Selling for Best Reasonable Offer
(seller photo from listing)
I decided to get in touch with a friend of mine who had recently moved to Lancaster, PA. He said he'd pick it up and store it for me, so I got in touch with the seller. I asked a few minor questions about it, they responded to my approval, I agreed to their price, and then got my friend and the seller together. My friend picked it up the next day.
Fast forward to Jan 1, 2023. To make a complicated story short, a friend of mine from CT picked the Peugeot up from my friend in PA and then delivered it to me (along with an Austro Daimler Vent Noir that my friend in CT had picked up for me over the summer).
I knew the stem was way wrong (and totally hideous) and I wanted to replace it. A couple weeks ago tmnguuyen listed an ATAX Peugeot stem in the length I like, so I bought that, in anticipation of the Peugeot arriving.
After the bike was delivered I spent some time removing the awful stem, I found out that the handlebars (the original to the bike) were bent, so I swapped in some Cannondale handlebars onto the ATAX stem, and installed them as a mock-up.
After hideous stem was removed / handlebars mocked up:
I'm really excited about the Super Competition. It almost feels like it's not real because now the search is over. I'll be going through everything mechanically, and will be putting many miles on it. This one is a keeper for sure!

The sad part is that I'm realizing the whole '54cm' size may be too small for me

It would be easier to list the ones that didn't.
Here's the current lucky get,
And one of the best with one of the very few that did not in the background, it was a local CL find.
They were both great deals.

I picked one of these up about a month or so ago! Been working through it, but I don't have the right spline tool to remove the freewheel in the back, and the seat rail binder bolt is stripped...but she sure is a looker.

Don't get me wrong, sometimes I wish I wasn't over 6ft tall, plus the curse of abnormally long arms. I'd have at least 3 or 4 REALY DAMN COOL bikes which are better than most of what I've got today. Ones I may ride once or twice a year at most, and not very far LOL!
I have a PX-10 already, but it's an early 70's and nowhere near as nice paint as the one you've got there. Still needs a lot of work.

I guess I owe one, so here goes my 1981 Motobécane Grand Touring.
This was kindly pointed out by Herr Thumpism a few days ago in this post:
https://www.bikeforums.net/22758328-post73454.html
The usual charming and informative FB ad let to a cover trip to a Euro big box store -- can't drive an hour just to look an old bike, of course! -- and a deal was quickly struck.
I already have questions and I won't pursue them here, but instead will add to this thread:
https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-v...d-touring.html
French is, how to say, un tout petit peu différent..!
The seat post is maybe an inch too short and the handlebar is too narrow, but the inaugural ride was pleasant -- plus it was a bike ride, in Michigan, in January, so that's a bonus right there. What to do with this bike... keep it 27 inch, go 700c, or even 650b? No hurry, riding season starts again in April.
cheers -mathias

Circling back and yes it has its own thread but here it is again.
1974 Strawberry built here in Portland presumably by Mark DiNucci.
Cables still to be cut down if they stay, waiting for a sunny day.

Slightly off topic, but is the average height of C&V posters around 6'2"", or is it more like 6'6"?
Or do we all still ride bikes that are too big like we did back in high school?

It's a really nice bike posted by Clang that came with some nice extras. I had set it aside until this week to work on. I've cleaned and repacked the bearings in the hubs and headset. Next on the list is cleaning and repacking the bottom bracket. It's a nice riding bike that was worth driving H-O-U-R-S and H-O-U-R-S for!

Nice! Yeah, this forum is full of enablers (I admit to being one as well). I actually hate that ebay/CL thread, especially when SoCaled posts all the great deals near me...
