Upcoming battery standard
Though not e-bike specific, but I can see e-bike manufacturers coming together for a standardized, swappable battery pack among e-bikes.

Six months after signing a letter of intent, Honda, Yamaha, KTM and Piaggio Group have signed an agreement for the creation of a swappable battery consortium. The basic premise, of course, is to allow customers of light electric vehicles, including motorcycles, to swap an expended battery for a fully charged battery at conveniently located stations, rather than wait for their battery to recharge.

I doubt we will see that but it would be a neat concept but totally screw up frame innovation potentially though if they stuck with the Bosch Powertube I would be happy (only because that is what I use most often though I do have Specialized Como I am working on)

The e-motorcycle system, like e-cars, is very different from bicycles. For vehicles used mostly as transportation, especially over distances, there is pressure to standardize charging systems, Battery packs? A few startup companies tried to develop standardized packs for cars, but their efforts failed badly.
I suspect the press release above is the last we'll hear about this project too. It sounds a bit like greenwashing to me.
Bicycles? We already have a segment that's somewhat standardized at the lower end, but as you move up in price, batteries become another profit center. No chance of standardization.

There are already charged battery vendors somewhere in the Asian east. I saw a video where a scooter rider popped up his seat and removed 2 batteries and placed them in the vending machine. After doing a payment two charged ones popped up for removal, he stuck them in the scooter and motored away. It could happen in the future in urban areas.
