ISO/WTT/WTB: NDS 170m Takagi Motobecane crank arm

I have the drive side version of the crank arm, and the chain rings, but the previous owner must have bodged up the other crank arm and over tightened a pedal into the replacement one that does not match anyhow.

For a Grand Touring conversion I am working on.

Have some stuff to trade for or would purchase a rider quality replacement.

Thanks!

I have a rider quality Takagi triple..........I'll have to double check the length when I get home. No Motobecane markings though.

It's the NDS Motobecane marked Takagi I am looking for. I am building it for My sister's boyfriend, and he likes the DS pantoed/painted crank arm, and wants to keep it.

I thought it would be a keeper too until I figured out the SR custom NDS crank was ruined, and was non-matching!

Might be faster to get a good bike shop to insert a bushing - takes a few hours for the threadlocker to set.

The dilemma

What I got...

Decent rider shape Takagi-Moto crank DS 170

SR Custom, non matching NDS crank arm with over tightened cheap pedal until it drove metal around the threaded part of the pedal. Free is some wants to pay shipping...haha

I also have this in need of a home if some wants to make an offer for trade...

That looks like the Helicoil that I installed in a cylinder head for my old Datsun 510 for a stripped spark plug hole, which I then flogged unmercifully for years afterwards. If the technology can handle that kind of abuse, pedal threads should be a piece of cake. Just my opinion, yeah the loads are in a different plane.

Oooohhhh!

That would work if I could get the pedal out!

If you're talking about the crank-with-pedal pictured, here's what I would do -

a) clamp the crankarm in a vice TIGHT, get a good pedal spanner and an extension of some type, and push hard in the direction that the pedal thinks is unscrew;
b) if that does not work heat the eye with a flame and try again - aim away from the pedal bearings, you don't want to fry the grease or ruin any rubber seal that might be there;
c) if that does not work decide that the crankarm isn't worth saving, saw a slit into the eye, and try again.

I've used one of those tap/thread inserts for an NR crank I picked up that had the thread stripped on the drive side.. Unfortunately the project it was for changed and the crank hasn't seen use yet so I can't tell how it will hold up. But it looks and feels solid. It's a bit pricey, I only bought the drive side set.

I don't really wish to save the NDS crank arm or the pedal. I don't have a Custom DS to match it anyhow...that I know of.

I am really trying to see if someone has a Motobecane NDS crankarm.
