I think the older riders can still do things like ride rollers and trainers etc... maybe they thought the season was a wash and spent time with their families. At the same time, folks have been allowed to ride outside in many places so it's not like that hadn't been happening.

Buttttt... you're probably onto something that younger riders may have been zwift racing etc to take some edge off the monotony. Anything and everything helps with indoor training, no?

I don't claim it proves anything. But I am not alone in noticing it. Johan, Lance, George all talking about it. I assume they are cherry picking too. Start at 29:45.
