Watch out with Alibaba

Ripped off via Alibaba...

I ordered a sample ebike via Alibaba (with the intention to order a bigger amount of those bikes).
· Juin/2019: Payment of cost e-bike : 1517 USD
· Sept 2019: Payment of custom clearance and transport : 449 USD.
· Dec 2019: Request for refund of 2020 USD since the ebike never arrived

Till today, 400 days after ordering, no bike nor refund received.

Diamand Industrial asked me to arrange the deal outside Alibaba, since the payments via Alibaba would be to slow or complicated. The Company: Diamond Industrial, 198 Siping Rd, Hongkou, District Shangai. Contact: John Chang. This is a so called Gold Supplier and should be more reliable.

Any body else bad experiences with them ?

So to be clear, you were not ripped off because you went through Alibaba. You were ripped off because you tried to circumvent Alibaba. How much did you save?

So, you created a bikeforums account just for this post? To complain that you were ripped off via Alibaba, even though… You did not use Alibaba?

Sounds like you fell for a pretty old scam. That used to happen on eBay a lot, too.

He created an account to promote the company mentioned. I’ve reported it.

Complaining about a company's poor service is promoting it?
Seems like an odd way to promote.

I think we are interpreting his post differently. The way I read it, he's saying "I tried to buy a bike from Alibaba but got ripped off. so now I am dealing with this named, 'Gold Supplier,' which "should be more reliable [than Alibaba]'. Here is how you can, too."

Maybe I am reading it wrong.

This should have been a big red flag. Once out of Alibaba oversite, they can screw you without facing any consequences. I would say they did that on purpose with the intention of ripping you off.

Other than badmouthing them wherever you can, not sure what recourse you have.

This is an online forum. You're not supposed to ever admit that you might possibly be wrong.

Get with the program.

So did you actually order it and get ripped off via Alibaba or did you arrange the deal outside Alibaba in which case they have no involvement or obligation to you what so ever?
I saw a cool used mazda at the used Ford lot so I went to Mazda and tried to buy it but they just took my deposit. Ford ripped me off. Seriously there's no logic there at all. You got played and don't want to accept the blame. Alibaba has their guarantee so you can feel safe buying through them not so you can figure out how to circumvent them and they have it for a reason. Lots of their companies can't be trusted.

I cannot remember what it was, but I ordered something bike related from Alibaba last year, despite my reservations. After not getting the item in a couple of months I requested a refund. I got a confirmation email from Alibaba oking the refund. After quite a while with no refund and many attempts to contact with no response, I kind of gave up and was going to chalk it up to experience. It was probably six weeks after that, the refund showed up on my credit card. If I remember correctly, it was an item for about $76. I will never order from Alibaba again.

OP circumvented Alibaba.... but complains here about Alibaba. This is equivalent to me buying a no-name Carbon bike and then I complain about Trek even when I circumvented Trek.

And Alibaba is a business-to-business platform. not relevant to end users or users of this forum. Alieexpress is the consumer equivalent.

OP should consult with his business lawyer how to deal with his (potential) vendor. Has nothing to do with a bike forum for consumers/users. Same way no one from Ford is coming to a car enthusiast forum to complain how their airbag supplier screwed them over.

If you paid with your credit card you’re protected from being scammed. What method of payment did you use?

I have no intention of buying from Ali---anything.
If they or their vendors rip you off, your only recourse is a bad review.
Ebay has a better satisfaction record.

Alibaba.com offers a paid Gold Supplier membership to try to ensure that each seller is genuine; sellers' Gold Supplier status and the number of years it has been held are displayed.[165] The supplier verification types and checks are listed on Alibaba.com's website, with more stringent checks for sellers outside China.[166] While the majority of suppliers are reported to be genuine,[[i]citation needed] there have been many cases of sellers, some with Gold Supplier status, seeking to defraud unsuspecting buyers.[167] In February 2011, controversy ensued when Alibaba's corporate office admitted that it had granted the mark of integrity of its "China Gold Supplier" program to more than 2,000 dealers that had subsequently defrauded buyers; the firm's share price dropped "abruptly" after the announcement.[168] A statement from the firm reported that Yan Limin, the general manager of Alibaba.com at the time, had been dismissed in March for "misconduct"; Phil Muncaster of UK's The Register additionally reported that "a further 28 employees had been involved in dodgy dealings".[169]

OP makes it sound like he intended to buy multiple. and he bought via a B2B platform, so he must have told them he has a business.

I would hope someone intending to market and manufacture (assemble) and sell a consumer product in the US would have some sort of legal advice.

On the other hand, OP also circumvented the payment process the B2B platform offers. So there is that.
