My wife went for a mountain bike ride with me today at York River state park. Short but sweat ride.

After descending into a small town and going about 18 MPH I heard the unmistakable sound of dog claws on pavement at full tilt right behind me. I spotted the interceptor, a medium sized mutt at 5:00 giving chase. I got out of the saddle and sprinted up to 26, held it for a few seconds until his claw clatter receded. Bike 1. Dog 0

About 25 years ago I was an avid cyclist and runner. I would take my black lab running with me just about daily for 5 mile runs or longer. The dog became super strong and would get antsy if it didn’t get its workout, so I would get on my bike and we would do 3 miles at 15 MPH. One day we did a top speed run and the lab hit 26 for a second and then we backed down to the usual pace. I was impressed by Sadie’s speed.

I also knew today that my dog was super fit and I probably had a pretty good chance of out gunning today’s pooch.

I was riding the lower slopes of Larch Mountain, when snow covered Mt. Hood came into view, lit up by a bit of late afternoon sun. It was glorious.

Looks to me like that picture was taken from The Evergreen State. Nice shot.

The road climbing up to the street I live on has a steep pitch 3/4s of the 2 miles up. Was happy (or unhappy) to see that the gradient was 18% courtesy of my new ‘puter. Thank Dog it was it went back down to 15% - 16% for the duration. Caught my breath at the top.

Couldnt rip the descent because of a slow pickup was tentative all the way down.

I found a new bike trail nearby that I never knew existed. That always provides a rush.

While not today (actually 2 days ago), I was on my recumbent going East from Mason Michigan on M36, right at the hilly section. For a few seconds, I swore it smelled and felt like the summit of Mt Washington in NH. It's a very distinct smell up there, and always cold. It made my day, actually.

Little thing? I was was happy that I was able to reach the crest of the hill before the dog caught up to me. Once I did I was able to pull away from him.

Was road biking through a forested area and scared two three point buck elk grazing next to the road. They took off crashing into the woods. Made me smile.

Saw a bald eagle nesting, male and female. On the eastern shore of MD this weekend, didn't know those birds made it this Far East. Beautiful.

I got lost in Watopia today. No, really: I'd done a ramp test and then decided to extend my workout ... and wound up on the Alpe du Zwift (a climb modeled on the Alpe d'Huez). As everyone - everyone - else passed me, I passed one person. A dogged young lady who is rather comely, and she was very friendly.

If you're going to go down in flames, make sure you have good company.

Yesterday I did a 6-mile errand ride. It didn’t need to be so long but I added miles. It was cold and damp and breezy but I dressed nearly perfectly, and I wasn’t uncomfortable. Not bad.

it was 40 degrees but no wind and most of the ride no rain. it only sprinkled on the way home instead of raining a lot like had been. did not have to stop and put on our rain pants. but the 15 minute stop sure got my wife and I cold had t work to get warm again.

Mostly that in spite of my poor vision I seem to navgate the local area reasonably well and the bike I have is working.

Also realizing I was having such a hard time going uphill because I was in seventh gear. Woopsie! Not as out of shape as I thought.
