Well ----- this one is home. My pics are on par with typical Craigslist sellers - via an iphone ----

The bike delivered the goods and was a solid buy - worth a 2 hour drive --- the seller was a real nice gal -- about 6'2 --- she said she bought it new and had carted it around for years from home to home until it wound up in her current abode hanging from a peg in the garage for years -- She was a fit, former jock looking gal and stated she rode a hybrid now --


Has some typical abrasions on the crankset from use, but not much perceptible brake rub on the rims --- original bar tape and a seatpost that moves

--- The white hoods are nasty, but for a 28-30 year old machine, -- i guess thats expected

I wish to hell i was tall enough to take this thing out for a serious workout -- what an awesome time capsule . OTOH, i'm taking my '89 "Red Rocket" out of storage and giving it a workout tomorrow

A little 409 or Simple Green and those white hoods will look practically NOS. Just did that treatment on an old pair of hoods on tri-color levers.

Crack a beer and just look at it for an hour or two. --- intent was to replace a buddy's 56c IM with it as the 56 is too small for him-- i'll see how that works out first

i've found that if i outfit my friends and family with vintage bikes i always have someone to ride with when i visit

but last night i did what one should never do when he gets an old bike home. I looked at the purchase price- , but then i factored in a 4 hour RT plus fuel and toll fees-- then slapped myself on the forehead. I can get so wrapped up chasing a bargain that i lose sight of the true cost of something. -- although the drive let me get caught up on some podcasts that i enjoyed

Cool, gazing at it for an hour or two, been there. That's a really nice MV. My MV is not near as nice condition but it's the most fun to ride. I'm not sure what it is about those MV. However I think seypat touched on it a few pages back. Too bad it's not your size.
I never ever factor in total cost, as a matter of fact I say that bike cost you a hundred bucks.
Cool idea about outfitting friends and family with bikes so you can have someone to bike with. I don't think I could let go of any though. Keep those freewheels spinning y'all.

Regarding the ride of a MV paint scheme ---

I think riding such an outlandishly colored bike in a group setting just lets a guy relax and not take the ride too seriously -- hence , have more fun

$125 -- she was asking $100 or make offer, so i went the other way with the offer and informed her i was doing that as i couldnt make it there for a couple of days

I was afraid getting a higher offer might make her immediately run to ebay and see what they were selling for, ---- but this seller lived in a very affluent area and was just trying to get an under-appreciated machine out of her hair

The real question for me is.........How was Wichita Falls? I don't miss that place at all. I will have to go back sometime in the next year for a wedding. For those of you that were in the Air Force, Sheppard AFB is located there. If you were in the Army, Fort Sill is right across the border in OK. Not places you want to be if you grew up somewhere else. Did the seller have any good stories about the bike?

For those of you that had never heard of Wichita Falls, this monster rolled through town and leveled the area that DMC707 picked up the bike from. That area had enough coin to rebuild. The scars are still there if you look for them.

I can think of some good things as well if I think about it. Midwestern State U is a fine school and has an attractive campus considering where it is. Lot of freedom growing up just not a lot of choices. If you are never exposed to anywhere else you might find it a great place. And, I would much rather live in Wichita Falls than...............Abilene!

Group or by yourself, I will ride my MV through the city and it does get alot of looks, looking at it to me just makes me smile.

NAsty --- I'm from Moore, OK myself --- and my job as an insurance adjuster has me helping tornado victims far too often in this area.

The seller had pretty fond memories of training for some age group triathlons years ago, and the husband advised that he completed the HHH (Hotter n Hell Hundred) on this bike in the early 90's --- good folks

I spent some time at Ft Sill as a young Army reservist doing pre mobilization training before Desert Storm 25 years ago myself ---- i didnt know any better when i was a 19 yo kid, but now i recognize that the region in general is not a very "fashionable" place to live, ---
although Meers Oklahoma outside Ft Sill used to host a fun group ride called the Tour de Meers , and a post ride angus burger at the little bar and grille in Meers is always fun ---- not to mention testing yourself by climbing Mt. Scott

Between the tumbleweeds and the buffalo , there's magic in those rolling roads if you look for it

175.00 Is below FMV. And considering its all original, you can't lose.
Those pics aren't the greatest, but that's a 1986 classic and appears to be a 58cm in good condition.
The only thing it should be crying about is lack of use. Puts some fenders on it and commute on it. Or take the rack off and race it. Or do both, it's very capable of that you know.
Good job Markwesti. Maybe another great buy for someone.
Someone will probably say the rear wheel needs to be replaced. But it is 30 yrs old. I wonder do Those brake marks affect the braking? Because as long as they stop, I wouldn't change the wheels. But then again if I was riding fast in tight turns, maybe then it would make more of a difference to me. Later.
