Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My surgery date has finally arrived, to report to the hospital 9:45 tomorrow morning. By this time tomorrow I'll be well on my way to recovery. Progress at last.

Our sweet corn comes from Costco these days. Better than nothing. The local corn is quite good too; just not sweet.

I'm not sure how close you follow them, but the stories are awesome. When Bernstein did the first 300 mph pass, the goal was to keep the fire lit for the whole 1/4 mile. The magneto's weren't keeping a hot enough spark to keep the plugs firing, so they decided to inject Argon into each mag, which worked. Now, the mags produce 44 amps apiece, and burn the plugs out by the time the run is halfway done. That's when it turns into a diesel.
I don't follow it closely but I enjoy it on tv and the few times at the Winternationals have been memorable. It's shocking to the senses in person. I took my ex, she had no idea what to expect. We stood up to watch the first fuel cars go by and she fell back to her seat.

When I was a kid we would ride our bikes to a local strip and the dragsters were barely hitting 200mph. Now the Pro Stock cars go 210.

I also love that women have been on equal footing with the men.

It would strange for me to have corn that was not sweet. The default corn sold at supermarkets, green grocers or grown at home are varieties of sweet corn, often Honey & Pearl. I think you can now get some obscure or heritage varieties as seed to grow from specialist seed merchants that aren't sweet.

From the morning ride -

Damn thing started running towards me when we saw each other, so I swung wide just in case it was a little off its rocker.
