Moloko Bars- extensions?

Love my Surly Moloko bars on my Salsa Fargo. I use the front "horns" a lot.

Like them so much, I'd really like to extend them out a bit. Anyone know of a good solution to do the following sketched below? Any off- the shelf solutions that can be ordered online or thru my LBS?

Ideas:
  • Wood Dowels- not a great solution
  • Hollow aluminum or steel tube- possible if I can find the right size and wrap the diameter with tape

Toadmeister You could add clip-on areo bars just inboard. It may be inelegant, but that's what came to mind first.

Yeah I have thought of that but don't like how those interfere with my Moloko Feng Shui

If Surly came out with a version of the bars with the extension you want they could call it the Miloko Plus... and they should offer them in Clockwork Orange.

They're chromoly, so maybe a welder to add extensions fairly economically?

I could agree with a hornier Moloko bar I have a set and wouldn't mind a bit more length, the girth is fine though.I suspect someone who is able to weld or braze could probably do a fine job. However I remembered quickly that Control Tech does these: https://www.controltechbikes.com/products/item/150.html
https://www.controltechbikes.com/products/item/151.html which might be just the ticket.

This is why your he hand of the King!

Yeah, I’m actually thinking inset a small tube adaptor than add tube the same diameter as the Moloko to extend. I might try it.

It's not the size of it, it's what you do with it that matters ; )

How about get someone to 3D print a cylinder with a smaller diameter section at one end that will have an interference fit inside the bar. Wrap some bare tape to secure. The 3D print could be low density/porous to keep weight down. You could even put an inward curve on them as you show. Wish I had a 3D printer.

i had thought about that but 3D printed stuff is probably too brittle/not strong enough. Heck, I’ve broken aluminum bar extensions before!

3D printing can work nice for prototypes however. I’ve done several for work.
