Campagnolo bottom bracket removal C record
Hi
Just wondering how and why one might need to remove the self removing screw.
The crank arms came off, as pictured, with an allen wrench .
would there be a reason to remove the threaded piece?
Went to the bike shop to remove and they do not have a spanner with the smallest of holes to put in the 2 holes to remove.
I bought now crank arms with c record self removing cranks.
Also wondering how will I tighten it down?
I am also considering using just the usual bolt screws to put on.
Appreciate any and all thoughts and help.
Thank you

The self-extractor plate (the ring with the two holes) does not need to come out. If you do want/need to remove it, it is a left-hand thread. If you want to replace the self-extractor with standard retaining bolts, you will need a left-hand thread extractor tool to remove the arms. Be prepared to pay dearly for it:

Thanks JDT!
I am a little confused though.
I slide the crank on and just put the bolt on and tighten slightly to test....not riding.
Wouldn't I just take the bolt out and slide the crank off ???
I must be missing something??
AND......I have a NEW set of cranks AND self extracting bolts.
If I decide to use....how would I tighten???
I did not see on the campy tool where it would fit in the 2 holes.
I have not seen s spanner that will fit in the smallest of holes.
About the size of a common pin head......maybe smaller.
Really appreciate the help
Thank you

This is the Campy tool for removing the self extractors. (Photo from VeloBase) They were a dime a dozen back in the day. Hard to find today.

Thanks gearbasher
I couldn't find one..
But ordered some pliers from Poland of all places that are made for exactly what I need.
I guess when people have one....they hold onto it😁😁😁

Yup. I still have mine. Plus, the left handed crank puller and the hub dust cap puller. Even though I sold off all my C-record stuff years ago. I quote my brother on this "Never get rid of a tool".
