I’ve been riding just about every day. Always from home so as to not be a burden on outlying communities, packing enough to be self sufficient for the entire ride, mostly noodling around the Upper and Lower Snoqualmie Valley. It’s a beautiful area with some great riding but it is beginning wear on me a bit. 3 days ago Trail Closure Signs have been posted on the 2 major trails I use most frequently so now I stay off, honoring what the state is trying to do to keep people safe so for the time being, my rides are on the road all the time

Spotty weather and a troublesome back have kept my mileage down recently but I bucked up today and loaded up the Heron for a longer distance ride. Mid to high 50’s today but there was a wet chill to the air and made me glad I overdressed..

Out today for a short ride to test a new to me wheelset. Record 32 hubs, Nisi Countach tubular rims and Clement Futurox tires (measured at 21.5mm) with no tread wear - old but not totally rotten. Wheelset also has a narrow 6 speed f/w for the 120 spacing.

ohhh, took a couple of shots, post ride, and I like this stem - the faux lug look; and that the chrome still shines well.


I love it when a new wheel slides right in and no adjustments are needed for new freewheel.

Best part of today's short ride = t-shirt weather. Mostly sunny, mid-60°s, humidity in the 30s! This is Puget Sound in mid-April. My allergies will subside.

Took the Ironman out for a short ride through the rolling hills and farmland of southern schuylkill county ,PA. There were more cars on the roads compared to my previous covid ride. I would have been out longer but had to get back to make dinner for the family. Great weather

despite my awful allergies.

I packed 2 1/2 sandwiches today for todays ride. Starting from home, I ventured outside the Snoqualmie Valley during my ride just for a change of scenery.

I took Fish Hatchery Road, it’s been closed due to flood damage since last Winter. The road is passible for peds and bikers. I stopped by the Walloby Farm near Fall City. Hadn’t visited in a long time. The animals seemed content..

I used to ride the May Valley Road a lot back in the 80’s when I lived nearby. It still a great road.

I left Stu and continued on my way up and over Cougar Mountain then back to Issaquah Climbing up the Sammamish Plateau. I rode around Beaver Lake, stopping for a picnic and a photo.

I used a small foot path to get to Lake Alice Road from Fall City. The climb up Alice is always tough, especially after a long day of riding but it was over soon enough and I was gliding down the Snoqualmie Plateau to my home in North Bend. It was about 75 miles in total and it sure felt good to see some new scenery for a change and meet Stu

Today was a beautiful spring day but the morning was busy so this afternoon I just rode around the block. That's a 15 mile hilly circuit through the surrounding neighborhoods, never more than a mile from home. As I've been riding my Fuji TS III too much (test riding and that honeymoon period with any new bike) I decided to get out one of my other lowly outdated steel sleds and drag that around hill and dale. One good things about the "new normal" is a lot more people are outside of their houses, gardening, lazing around, playing with the kids. I got to wave at all sorts of folks.

Back home it seemed like a nice day for this picture. While I ride around a lot, my wife makes tiny horses. Whinny was born less than a week ago. Light during darkness, life during death, hope during apprehension. Whinny was preceded by Rosey, about a week before, and the third baby is due any day now. A good year.

update: the third, a colt named Rubi, arrived in the cold this morning, 4/17/20 at 2:30am. All went smoothly. "Big boy, long legs"

Still slightly chilly today but beautiful blue skies. I hadn’t been on the Merckx Century in a while so I decided to toughen myself up and do repeats of the local to me stinger climb, Observatory Hill on the grounds of UVA. I set out to do 3 laps, but ended up doing 4 times. It’s a 300 foot elevation gain over 1 mile, but it’s a stair step climb so there are multiple pitches of 15+%. 16 miles, all on the campus (“Grounds” around here) of UVA, 1900+ feet of climbing.

This is John Paul Jones Arena - home of the I guess still Men’s basketball National Champion Wahoos. There were some government SUV’s, a police car, and a Homeland Security police car parked out front. Interesting

Not C+V but I got another 14 miles in with my son on the back of our "new " Surly Big Dummy. I figure If put in 50-60 miles a week with this beast, I will be in pretty good condition when I finally get let out of the neighborhood.

Yesterday, I rode down the Boulder Turnpike Bikeway and other some other MUPs


to the confluence of Clear Creek and the South Platte River, northeast of Denver.


Today, there is at least a foot of snow at my house.

I was over in the Snoqualmie Valley today because the weather was perfect and I'd done a half-assed recon run a week or so ago and wanted to explore further. Some good hills here and there, but mainly nice quiet and flat back roads with little traffic once I arrived in the valley. I took a side-trip around part of the Redmond Ridge golf course. Course and golf cart path was deserted.

I climbed up Novelty Hill Road and bombed down the back side; the last 3/4 of a mile is a test for vintage binders. I'm running Campy Record calipers with original shoes and they stopped me just fine

Then along the valley floor and across to Ames Lake/Carnation Road NE for miles of rolling, forested road. I came back around to Redmond from the south via Redmond/Fall City Road, then reversed my normal direction by traversing the Red Brick Road from south to north. Once into Redmond proper I used the Sammamish River Trail as far as the Red Hook Brewery whereupon I took the back road the rest of the way home.

Thankful to be posting this thread.

Maiden ride for a new-to-me built up frameset from a BF’er. New Selle Anatomica, too. A few extra tools, what could go wrong?.....I mean I did all but BB install.....(I think).... old, but refurbed set of clincher wheels (should be retired).

Out and back = Home to Issaquah and east Lake Samm Rd - the sunny side of the lake - to Redmond then retrace. With the meandering around, the route is about my flatest possible 50 mi.

here’s the pics - always from home first . And need to mount new rear tire to match the new front.


A chain link look at Lake Sammamish. We love sun, low humidity, temps about 70*F.

34 miles today around west San Fernando Valley, socially distanced with two friends. I rode my '78 Super Course, and my friend Rick rode his beautiful Cinelli with 50th Anniversary Campy gruppo. Good times.

Nice to see you're finally out of your hole, Huffer Dave! Nice picture BTW...I had heard and later confirmed on the Washington State Parks website that while parking lots and facilities are all closed,
they are not enforcing any restriction on the use the state’s linear trails as long as people abide by social distancing rules.
I took that to mean the Iron Horse trail could still be ridden and that’s what I did today.

I had to turn back about a mile east of Bandera (so maybe 7-8 miles from the tunnel?) when the trail was completely covered with deep snow.
