Hi all,
Apologies for bumping this again, but as it’s the official internet SR bikes thread, then why not,
Ive just picked this up for the Eroica event in Bakewell UK, looks like the paint has been stripped and then lacquered as there are no decals or badges but it was listed as a 1981 SR Aero, with aero tubing and forks and 600 arabesque group.
When it arrives ill strip it down and service it and get some detailed close ups.

I can't find anything about it anywhere... It has a "Made in Japan" sticker on the bottom. I've found some things about "SR Pro" and similar, but nothing with "SR Custom". I picked it up off Craigslist for $50. New tires (Panaracer Pasela) on the way, picked up some tubes at a local shop, going to replace the chain, all the cables, rear derailleur (Sunlite Long Cage ATB), and tear down the hubs and bottom bracket to swap out the bearings and add some marine grease (I live in the PNW a few 100 yards from salt water). Anything else I should do? This is my first time tearing down a bike like this, but I'm pretty mechanically inclined. Anything I should know? Is this a good bike? The parts I picked up are cheap, but have good reviews... Did I do alright?

Welcome to the forums and thank-you for posting your bicycle. The reason that you don't see too many SR bicycles with this head badge is because it is the early version, from when SR did not have a wide distribution network. Most of the SR bicycles that surface are from the early 1980s, when they had better distribution. Based on the serial number, your bicycle should be from 1976, the first year for distribution in North America. It passes the component sanity check, as it has 1st generation Shimano 600 rear derailleur and side-pull brakes, which were available in 1976.

Standalone - Thanks for posting the photos of your wife's Gran Course. SR really made some wonderful bikes and that one is a perfect example.

Hi, I have the same bike as bingham34, and thankfully have finally found some info on it. Mine had no model stickers left on, just the older style headtube badge.
Mine is orange with the same chromed stays and fork parts, same shimano 600 derailleurs, and has shimano 500 brakes, and silstar crank, bar end shifters which may be a later addition. The serial is M8C#####. Any info on dating with that serial?

Greetings from Perth Western Australia
Came across this thread which seems appropriate for my dad's vintage SR bike purchased in the 1970's in Perth, Australia.
Note the unusual tube profile in the frame and the diamond shaped logo. Has anyone ever seen such tubing or is familiar with the logo?
I've researched everywhere and can't locate anything similar.
The handle bars are marked SAKAE SR ROAD
Thoughts anyone?
Any idea of the possible value given the interest in 1970's bicycles and the bespoke frame?

Mr. Bike Cottage That is my bikes taller twin. Same down tube logo but none on top tube. The original bar tape was a light blue . The original bladed spokes were sharp front and back. instead of just flat. Rims would not seat super high pressure tires such as the super sonics properly due to the bead slot being too smooth. The original water bottle was the coolest aero design. very thin and curved and also light blue.

1. A good overall picture, taken from the drive side. Also include detail picturess of the tubing decal (if any) and all the major components (crankset, brakes, derailleurs).
2. List the brand and models of all the major components and the tubeset.
In addition to allowing us to determine the level of the bicycle, pictures have the advantage of allowing us to determine the cosmetic condition and to a lesser degree, the mechanical condition, both of which are critical in establishing the value. The third major factor in value is knowing where you live, as market conditions vary substantially.
As for the serial number, SR were contract manufactured. I know of a least three different manufacturers. If you post the serial number, I may be able to tell you who made it and when. If not, most of the components should have date codes which you can decypher using the information on the components page of the Vintage-Trek website.

Your SR Semi--Pro a 1982 model contract manufactured by Miki of Japan, who also contract manufactured numerous other brands including Centurion, Sekai and Shogun, to name but three. Thxs for posting. Enjoy your new acquisition.

Tig welded 4130 with pressed BB, Tange fork, bottle bosses, top tube cable clamps, rear drops unmarked. At the time of purchase bike was equipped with TA crank, Campy headset, Suntour Superbe brakeset, Suntour Cyclone FD&RD, Zeus shifters, Shimano high flange hubs.

Man I just spent 10 minutes on a post and added photos then clicked submit and got an error that I can’t post pics till I have made 10 posts 😭 so here goes, again.
Been hunting for a bike for “me” that’s more my size. Not easy to find exactly what you want when shopping vintage stuff, this ones too big, that ones too small, in the end I got this MINT 1982 SR Semi Pro. Its a 57 and I wanted a 58-60 so a tad small but after all the adjustments and comparing measurements to my Trek 670 which is 64.77 everything is set almost the same I just need a longer stem to get my reach back. The bb is 1” higher than the Trek and wheelbase is 1/2” longer but I put 30 miles on it since getting it yesterday and love it.
It’s got Shimano 600 Arabesque mostly but some stuff has been replaced like rd with a generic Shimano so I am wondering if I should get a 600 like it came with or something else. Brake levers are new, thinking about doing a Modolo swap on the whole brake system and sell the 600 calipers. Also it has 27” wheels that are brand new but I test fitted a 700 today and it will work fine just gotta move the brake pads down which there is room to do.

Has anyone else noticed the odd spelling of tubing on the sticker? “Chrome Molybdenum Steel Tubeing” haha didn’t really catch that myself until someone commented on it on the Vintage Steel Bikes Facebook group

Also it had a random bolt for the seat post binder and I have discovered that the typical bolts don’t fit, any idea where I can get the right bolt? For now I went to Ace hardware and got something that works and fits inside the opening like it should.

Wow, I haven't heard that bike shop mentioned in a long time. I used to race for the Magic Mushroom Cyclery BMX Team in the 80's. My 6 foot trophy I won at Magic Mountain was displayed there for years. I heard it's gone now (bike shop). Anyone know what happened to the owner and his kids?
