1985 Schwinn LeTour Lux
Hi All,
I've been looking to get my hands dirty in restoring a bike and came across a Schwinn LeTour Lux at a LBS. It's been rehashed into a single speed with flat bars and seems to be lacking most (if not all) of its original components. The frame has some rust and would need a bit of TLC for sure. My research leads me to believe it's a 1985 model, which I've read is the year to get for this line.
I rode it around today and it was quite charming in a light blue.
My question is - at $225 is this too much for what it is? For context there's a 1985 Schwinn Voyageur in my area with a derailleurs and crank listed for $100.

The '85 Le Tour Luxe is a nice ride and underrated as an entry/mid level tourer. Not a rare bike, though. Good examples with original parts can be had for under $300, with a little patience. I'd pass on the bike in question as a restoration project, unless you can get it for around $100.

The Voyageur was above the Le Tour Luxe in Schwinn's touring bike hierarchy, so why not get that since it's also only $100?

If it's your size I would agree with this the Voyagers were much nicer bikes than the Le Tour's basically third in the line up of vintage 70's and 80's Schwinn's while the Le Tour was 8th or 9th.

Forget the $225 mess. $100 for a Voyageur, or any touring bike, in good shape is a great deal. Make sure it fits and is in good shape. If it is, grab it fast.

I'm sad to say I was a slow bird and missed the worm on both the bikes I referenced. However, I did manage to snag a 1986 Schwinn Voyageur frame/fork in great condition for $40 this weekend. I've got a long road ahead to get it built out into a true dream-cycle but very excited to get started!

I would agree $225 for something that needs a lot of work wouldn't be worth it, but $100 for a Voyageur is a steal in almost any condition.
I picked this 1985 Luxe Recenlty for 150 and a voyageur at the same time. This Luxe was too nice to leave alone. I
put new Kenda Gumwalls on it, Brooks Saddle and Bar Tape. Its Nice and for sale in the Classic and Vintage for sale section
Good luck in your search
