Possibly For Trade: c. 1950 Jo Routens
Hello folks,
This bicycle is not for sale! If I do sell it there is a short list of interested parties that have called dibs already and that time has not come. I am interested in keeping it and finishing a full mechanical restoration and painting it... However, I've found my time limited lately and am not sure when I'll get around to the restoration, so I am entertaining the prospect of trading it for a quality Italian bicycle that is more or less ready to ride.
The Routens currently sits exactly as shown in the photos below and I have not started the restoration process. Everything needs fresh grease. I have a set of reproduction downtube decals and Jean Paul Routens himself sent me a reproduction head badge and confirmed the age of the frame as being from around 1948-1950. The frame is approximately 61cm center-to-top and 57cm center-to-center on the top tube. The Ostrich bag will be included but the water bottle will not. The thread I started about it can be found here:
An Old Jo Routens Randonneuse! - Bike Forums
I am looking for an Italian bicycle and am keen on models such as the Cinelli Supercorsa, De Rosa Professional (or Neo Primato), Tommasini Tecno, Stelbel Strada, Bianchi Specialissima, or Rossin Ghibli... Something fast and flashy and most likely equipped with components from the 1980s-90s. Offers of similar sorts of bicycles will of course be considered! I would need a frame that is 60-61cm (c-c) with a 57-58cm top tube (c-c).
I ask for an Italian because I haven't owned one in a while, but classic British bicycles are my first love. A Hetchins or Jack Taylor in my size range would also be considered.
Whatever it is will have to speak to me and require minimal effort to get roadworthy.
Cheers!

Oh man. I’ve definitely had Routens cravings recently but this may be just a little too small for me. I feel my offering(s) would just miss the mark too… and aren’t quite finished either.
Beautiful looking bike!

Gregory,
Absolute stunner. I hope you find a trade that works for both parties. Thanks for sharing the pictures.
