It is indeed just a small-frame bike. But women's specific designs, beyond pastel paint jobs and pink handlebar tape, are out there.
I would agree with your point if my friend was riding Terry or Liv, but he's riding sub-52cm vintage road bike frames and vintage step throughs. There isn't a lot when it comes to "women's specific," bikes and parts on the market. In the world of vintage cycles, women's Vs. men's anatomy was an after thought. Yes, the Bauer is not a good example, hence the reason I posted about it.

There's more that goes into "women's specific" bikes than proportion of height... Muscle mass, energy outputs/strength transfer... I sure hope Liv is doing more than just selling bikes based off proportion of height!

I like seeing a bunch of 36-spoke wheels. It reminds me of the old days. I remember when 28-spoke wheels started becoming more common, and the doomsayers were said that heaps of them would collapse.

Mercier 100 - $120 (Ipswich)

This is an early 1970's Mercier 100 (French made) vintage bike with almost all original components. As to frame size, I am going to say 23". I am 6'1" with a 32 inch inseam and you can see the saddle height that I have. I would guess it would suit a rider between 5'7" and 6'2" in height. The wheels have aluminum Normandy large flange hubs which have been dismantled, cleaned, and regreased. It has 27" x 1 1/4" steel rims in excellent condition and the tires and inner tubes are all new. It features Simplex 10 speed (2 x 5) derailleurs with Stronglight cranks, all in excellent condition. Bar tape and inner and outer cables have all been replaced. Brakes are Mafac Racer center-pulls and the seat post has been replaced but the saddle is original. The frame has been properly rust treated and lightly touched-up and the chrome on the frame has also been treated. The complete bike has been serviced and thoroughly cleaned. Please note that the SPD-SL pedals do not come with the bike and you can choose what you would like to install.

Quad! Santana

This is awesome, although it should probably be in the wacky thread, although it also probably deserves its own thread entirely.

It has couplers added, so it can be a tandem, tri, or quad. It’s probably coolest until I start thinking of the physics too much…

1983 Eddy Merckx Professional 55.5 - $800 (Plano)

I only recently finished my restoration on this, but sadly my stable must shrink due to a move. 55.5cm square (cTc). Columbus tubing with Dura Ace 7400 greatness. Stronglight needle bearing headset. Comes with everything you see here.

Pros: brand new tires, bar tape, cables, grease.

Cons: mild surface oxidation on the components in some areas. I cleaned it up the best I could and it still looks fantastic. See photos for actual condition. I also repainted the top tube and bottom bracket after cleaning up some mild rust. Just your typical rusting cable guides. I’m not Joe Bell, but I think it came out pretty nice. I didn’t want to do a whole repaint and sacrifice the logos because 95% of the paint was/is amazing. My process was- remove loose rust, treat areas with oxalic acid to convert/halt rust, two coats automotive primer, two coats base PPG, three coats clear color sanded and buffed to a shine.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I prefer a local sale due to busyness before my move, but will consider shipping if necessary.

Trek WAS making women's specific bikes, then stopped, claiming that the difference was only in the touch points.

In the days before hybrids many shoppers should have been buying these instead of drop bar 10-speeds. I built and sold a bunch of these in my shop days and they're terrific machines, his 'n' hers Panasonic Tourist 10s. There's also a pair of similar Schwinns (with apehangers!).

Marinoni bike from ~1980’s built up with most old campagnolo parts and a flip flop hub. Right now it’s set to free wheel but you can turn it around and make it a fixie if you want! 54” (size medium - would fit someone between 5’7” and 5’9” roughly). Beautiful red paint color (has a few knicks). Comes with my virtually brand new Brooks saddle. If you know anything about bikes and saddles, you know $100 for both is a steal. She needs a tune up and fresh tires but otherwise she’s in good shape.
