Univega Metro Ten Mixte

I found this nice little bike the other day and haven’t found much, if any info on this particular model online.
I think it a 1985, Made in Japan frame.
while in nice condition I assume it’s a middle of the road model.
Cromo frame, high tension fork, etc.
Such classy lines and presumably well made middle of the road bike.
I really like all the components even though they aren’t top of the line.
thanks for looking
I wonder if it Miyata made……

Fluted seatposts worry me. Excellent that it wasn't stuck!

Hey thanks,
I tried deciphering the serial number with the sticky post but my mind get scrambled easily.
bike also has and ALPS stem, Araya rims, nice clean steel fenders, and a very comfortable Viscount mattress saddle.
the bike is remarkably responsive, and spunky.

Your frame was manufactured in February 1986 by a Taiwan based company called Merida. They were a known manufacturer for some of the entry level Univega models during this era. The hub date code indicates November 1985. A four month differential between the component and frame dates would not be considered out of the ordinary. Enjoy your new acquisition!

That's a sweet bike. Mixtes have a great stance.

I prefer the step-through version of the two bikes pictured in that ad.

It would have been sweet if they figured out how to mount the rear brakes on the middle "seat stay", eliminating the vertical cable housing.

Mounting cantilevers on the mid-stay would be dangerous, as there is the possibility of a heel strike that could release the yoke cable and leave the rider without a rear brake.

Or you could have blown your Achilles tendon out over and over, had it reconstructed twice and every time something whacks it it nearly brings you to tears. T-Mar is right, so right...

Is the stem tall like a Technomic or just over the min. insertion line? That looks comfy.
