That derailleur is also good for straining pasta. Hey, it is Italian after all.

If he really has one of the world biggest Campagnolo part collection as he claims, every now and then some finishing touches to complient the Vicenza handwork can't hurt. It's awesome....

I appreciate the the article acknowledges that this level of swiss cheesiness likely has some aerodynamic trade offs, and it can make some bikes impossibly delicate. It's pretty, though.

One of the nicer jobs I've seen, but how much weight did he actually subtract? The article says that the bike is under 7 kg, but nothing about what it was when it was unholy.

This guy is an interesting follow on Instagram @thecampagkid he journals all sorts of drillium sillium. Often reduces brake calipers and rear changers to about two-thirds of stock weight using not only drillium reduction but substitution of steel bolts for alloy etc.

I have no doubt whatsoever the bicycle weight is correct on the basis of what I’ve seen.

The Drillium is just psychological boost, as it really being a time saver? Doubtful.

also a psych weapon against the competition.

All I can think of when I see this is this person must live in California or something. If they lived in the UK they would spend more time trying to clean that than actually riding it.

The thought of riding through some puddles and mud is too traumatic to think about, I think I'd only be able to ride it once, get it home and look at the mess, cry and put the whole thing as is on eBay.

I'd worry about it whistling at speed.

Presumably he could have saved all the shavings, and weighed them.

"the drilling is done for function and weight reduction. if drilling is slightly off a rider would never be ble to feel it. you ride a bike with your legs, not your eyes. noone has ever won a Tour De France using their eyes. this is not for old men trying to create a museum type bike that they always wanted. this is for a person to need to reduce weight and to be FAST!"

"This crankset is not for the older man who is trying to recreate something ORIGINAL that he always wanted and say "i finally got it after 4 decades!". this is for the person who is actually riding and getting a good deal on a very good crankset."DONT BE AFRAID TO STEP OUT OF THE BOX!" If you fall down and break your hip it just means your rode to the very end of your life! That is called passion!! and you have Obama care! THE WEIGHT IS VERY CLOSE TO SUPER RECORD 11. I KNOW MANY BABY BOOMERS MAY NOT HAVE NOT HAVE THE PRIVILEGE TO OWN SUPER RECORD 11. BUT THE WEIGHT IS VERY CLOSE. AT ONLY 10% OF THE COST! THIS IS A DEAL! YOUR WHITE HAIRED WIFE WON'T GET ON YOU FOR SPENDING TOO MUCH! EVERYONE IS HAPPY! ask her for permission to bid. it's only starting at $49 and no reserve!"

I wonder if the 7 kg is as pictured -- without front brake, without brake cables or housing, without FD or front shifter, without pedals? Lightweight regardless, and pretty, but not really rideable, even for a lightweight. Neat wall hanger, though.

I wonder if simply bolting on a Huret Jubilee would be not only easier, but lighter? And that's before drilling the Jubilee.

That said, I wish I had that skill level...

It looks like this bicycle remains a work in progress. Just days ago he posted photos of seat post hardware reduced 70gm by replacement of Nuovo Record steel with Super Record alloy brackets, more drillium, and OMAS alloy bolts.

It certainly seems his goal is to complete the bicycle at sub 7kg. Time will tell.

I thought the same thing. I also thought the same thing about Della Santa's Osso Buco chainstays.

At my size/weight, drillium is the last thing I need on my bikes. Sure is fun to look at, though.

That seatpost is so sexy. Maybe impractical, drillium looks cool and in the end this is more art than bike.
