Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

And they dripped.

We had a '61 Starliner with the motor (392?) that they ran exterior oil lines to the rear cylinders. Also had a '63 Galaxy two-tone white over maroon, black interior and a 289. My dad loved that car.

With a performance coming up, you would expect that they've been practicing. What has he been practicing with?

I've tried to use them a number of times and I keep having to stop and pull the legs down again. And then there were the $60 Black Bibs that feel good, fit well, but slide all over the damn saddle so I can't stay in one spot. I keep sliding forward on the saddle, which doesn't happen with any other shorts.
My collection of bibs includes Le Col, Neopro, Voler, and $40 Black Bibs. IMO, the $60 Neopros are easily on par - or better - than the $100 Volers. The BBs are dedicated to trainer duty.

I still have some Performance Ultra bibs from decades ago that are still fine. Also, at least 4 different pairs of Black Bibs that work for me. I guess I don't have massive guads or slippery saddles.
And my first car was a 1952 MGTD that I must have pulled the engine out of at least 4 times. Learned a lot from that car.

Yeah, 352 was the smaller version of the same block. A friend had a 65 Galaxie hardtop with factory 4 speed stick and bucket seats. Very unusual.
The '66 had the vents and controls integrated into the dashboard, which was different from the non-AC cars, which had no vents.
AC

No AC

With that big 390 V8 running the compressor, on humid days the vents would get condensation forming on them, the air was so cold.

I learned a lot from my MGB, like "DO NOT try to depend on an English sports car as your primary mode or transportation!"

In the 3 years I owned it, I had to...
  • have channel irons welded to the body because the rocker panels were rusted out.
  • replace the distributor
  • replace the heater core
  • rebuild the engine
  • replace the driveshaft U-joints
  • replace the clutch
  • replace the top
The list is, as they say in legal documents, illustrative rather than exhaustive.

My parents must have been very forgiving. A lot of cars came and went in high school. 52 MGTD, 62 Ford Falcon, 49 Cadillac Hearse, a Fiat Multipla,I don't remember the year. edit: I forgot my 57 Ford Panel Truck. And a garage full of motorcycles that my friends let me fix and ride.

I really liked the Performance Ultra with the dark grey chamois from about 12-15 years ago. They changed to a green chamois about 8-10 years ago and I did not like that version. I still have a few but they are pretty worn, my current favorite bibs are actually 2 generations ago Assos S5 with the blue chamois.

Of course, comfort/fit is very individual so YMMV.

That's the ones I have. They're the only bibs I have that creep like that.

The LeCols are the first bibs I've ever gotten that sell for >$130. They list for $220. I figured for half off, I could try a better grade of kit for the same money.

As somebody (Eric F?) said above, I make a lot of use of the Strava discount. And once you start buying, you can build up points for a 30% discount. So even though I've bought a bunch of stuff from them, I don't think I've paid retail on any of it.

Le Col also has periodic sales, which can be used in conjunction with the Strava discount (with minimum-purchase conditions). My last purchase was a Pro II jersey and a pair of socks. I think the net total was $91.

He's lazy, because he's a fast learner, and we had a whirlwind weekend, so I don't think that the thought of practicing even popped in to his head. When he did realize it was missing, he was probably scared of getting chewed out by his mom, so he didn't volunteer the info until directly asked.

I was thinking about practice at school. I am familiar with his mental state regarding fear of mom.
