It’s telling that I’m thinking about buying myself some more running socks, but I did recently order some canvas sneakers in a proper barefoot style with a wide toebox that I plan to dedicate to cycling. I even bought them in “stone” color to best match the color of the dust on our crushed stone MUPs. 😊

That looks like a nice backpacking/bikepacking stove. I owned one of the early MSR backpacking stoves, but it was very fiddly. At the end of a long day on the trail, it was the last thing I wanted to deal with… I eventually just bought one of the little tiny green Coleman stoves.

I recently bought a couple of Castelli jackets, so I'm calling that my Christmas gift to myself (from my wife). Even on sale, they are darn expensive.

It is. I have been using a Dragonfly since the summer of 2000. I do relatively elaborate cooking on the road rather than just boil water. The Dragonfly has great simmer control. Biggest drawback is that it is really loud at full blast. I also have an Optimus Nova. It packs down smaller and is quieter. The fuel bottle is a bit smaller, so I usually reserve it for trips of fewer that 7-8 days.

Do the people on the thread know who Mike Leach was? If not, look him up as it relates to my Christmas gift to myself. I was at the gym last night. I did a yoga class then started a run on the treadmill. About a mile in, my HR on my sports watch started spiking dramatically. I stopped, and it went down some. Started back up and it went to spiking again. I'm thinking, "I don't feel anything, nothing abnormal." I stopped and headed over to do some core/weights. As I'm walking around the HR is still sitting at 150. I'm starting to get worried thinking it's going to end right there like Mike Leach. I'm going to see Elizabeth like Fred Sanford! So I sit down, pull out my phone a take a minute pulse sample by hand. Hand sample nets me 78 while the watch is reading 140. I take the watch off and examine it. I notice a small crack in the HR sensor face. The watch was still reading 90 when it was dangling from my fingers. So, I'll be getting a new sports watch for Christmas.

I always took your mstate to be Sparty from the north. I am a MSU-Texas grad. Now part of the Texas Tech Uni system. Most of my relatives in the western part of that state went to TT.

Between the Mike Leach passing and the Chris Beard incident, TT fans have had some past coaches on their minds recently.

I got myself some new shoes, the DHB camo laceups from CRC, along with toe covers and some chains to last me through 2023, as well as a new cassette. The main gift is spousal clearance to ride, though. I can buy myself stuff, there's nothing I really need as a present, except understanding from my family that I will do an overnighter in 2023, as well as a few challenges/longer rides throughout the year. I make sure that I plan time to spend with them as well, so I'm not an absent husband/father, but I really do appreciate the gift of time.

I bought myself a Firman inverter generator. Firman was having a sale on eBay yesterday, their 1600/2000 watt (only 54 db!!!) unit for less than 220 bucks with free shipping. thats about 600 dollars off retail, and it's direct from Firman
I already had a 9000 watt unit to run my home, now I have a little one to run my compressor/battery charger when I'm fixing bikes in the park. Here

My small house is packed, both kids are home and both brought friends from school. Tomorrow the 3rd young guest arrives. It's a noisy messy bunch but they're joyous.
