Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

not sure of the spoke type on your wheel but be carefully. Mine have no longer produced proprietary spokes that can become fused to the nipple and strip or break when adjustments are attempted.. they go for $15.00 apiece on the used market.

I am holding off on posting my year-end totals as it looks like tomorrow's rain may hold off until the afternoon, so one more (real, not fake) ride for 2022.

Waist, inseam, front and rear rise (crotch to front/rear), thigh width, knee width, bottom/opening width. I'm sure that, like me, you've run in to jeans that fit fine around the waist, but constrict the mighty guads - right size, wrong fit.

There's typically just shorthand for different combinations of fit: slim, straight, boot cut, relaxed, etc. If you're trying stuff on at a shop, you find the fit that you like and don't need to worry about the specifics. If you're buying online, though, you'll want to scan over the dimensions to ensure that you have the right size and the fit that you want, otherwise you're playing the shipping/exchange game.

Silly WhyFi, there's no such thing as "extra" dohnuts.....

I've worked on bikes for over forty years and have tools to do anything, including headsets and bottom brackets up to about the time of press fit bottom brackets. After that, BBs had to go to the LBS if creaking set in. Now, I've added hydraulic brakes to my LBS trips. Then, I buy a 2022 bike with Force eTap and it comes with all of these adjustment gizmos. I figure my wrenching abilities have been reduce to putting air in the tires.

Good luck and congratulations! Sneaking in that tax deduction at the 11th hour still counts! My son decided to wait until mid-January and I’ll remind him of that until I die!

Curious what your cleaning regime will be. First wash in one year? Freeze them between wearing? What will be the protocol?

Denim can be a total rabbit hole, but there is some really cool stuff out there, if you want to play around with different weight, texture, interior/exterior color, fading characteristics, etc. I mean, what's not to love about this?

Whoo-hooo!

Good luck with everything.

10,000 miles in 2022. 10 miles in 2023. You saw it here first. 😁

I realized last weekend just how much of a difference having a dedicated shop space is. I installed a set of R7000 shifters, cables & housing, and new bar tape on my bike last weekend in the living room. It's a simple & straightforward job that I've done a lot but I couldn't help how annoyed I felt the whole time.

Oh, no - I'm not going to go that route and don't know that I'll ever get too crazy about it. These are already washed, anyway. I'll just wash as needed (which certainly isn't after each wearing).

That reminds me, I have new shifters and tape for my Propel sitting on my work bench just staring at me.

I put it off for a while after getting them because I kept thinking "I mean, the bike works fine right now...do I really want to take it apart?"

I think it’s possible that in a big field and a tight, dog-leggy, start like Syd–Hob, a very fast boat could capitalize on clean air and leg out to a significant early lead, which might matter in such a short race sailed under fast conditions. For the rest of us slobs in 7KSBs on longer races, it’s just ego and nerves.
