Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I like the shape of those bars. If I wasn’t running an integrated bar/stem on my road bike, I would be on that.

Went to the doctor yesterday, said everything was normal. Thinks the contractions were “aggravated braxton hicks” due to dehydration, plus she ate some spicy food which he must not have liked.

Woke up super early because even though my back is getting better, it locks up overnight from holding still and so I woke up at 3 in pain. FML.

My 30 day heart monitor results came back to Cardiologist on Christmas. She's on vacation so I'm still not driving. I read them but can't interpret them. I'm not a doctor. I guess I do need a doctor. Therefore this doesn't apply:

A deliberately slow 800m swim followed by a deliberately flat (and fake!) 4.3mi on the bike. After all of the headaches of this past week, I’m going to go out on a slow and steady note with my middle finger pointed directly at you, 2022!

Do be careful, the year isn’t over yet. 2022 could take one last swing at you.

It’s really wet and foggy out. All of my usual Saturday ride friends bailed, so I did a shorter local ride.

The bike is a wet and gritty mess, but riding at 45F and fog is better than 20F or worse yet, on Zwift.

That’s a wrap for 2022 riding. Happy New Year to all!

I got misted on a little yesterday, supposed to warm up to 67° today, but I felt chilly all day yesterday so I'm overdressing today.

It's raining here so no club ride today. Supposed to rain hard later and into the evening. I sure hope these storms keep coming long enough to fill some reservoirs. They say it's just starting to help the drought but we need a lot more. The snow pack is looking good, too, but it's still early.

Not predicted to rain tomorrow so a NYD ride could be happening.

I had plans to do a group gravel ride stating in San Fernando this morning, but the leader cancelled the ride with the rain forecast. Right call.

Thankfully, I got out for a dirty quickie on the singlespeed yesterday afternoon for my final ride of ‘22.

We got 2 1/2" just between 5 and 8 AM this morning. I missed it. Came out to the LR after waking up, and there was a steady, but not heavy rain. Then I looked at the creek in back, which I generally can't see. It was running close to the top of the banks! There's a flood control dam about 1/2 mile upstream, which limits the flow, and the creek only drains about 2 miles or so of canyon, so it runs down pretty quick. The rainfall had peaked at about 7, the creek was at its max an hour later, and 3 hours after that it's already dropped maybe 2 feet.

I saw that. Have you done any rides with that group? I thought about maybe trying to do part of it but the road sections would be tough on my mtb. I am familiar with some of the dirt roads but it would be nice to learn new ones.
