I have my own religion - I believe in the infinite randomness of the universe. Believers are called 'randonneurs', or 'Randos' for short.
I celebrate the randomness every week by going for a bike ride - I call it 'Celebrating the Rotating Mass'.

What separates us from animals is something I call the 'wish response' - the ability to gain some benefit from simply thinking or dreaming about things we want but do not have. As people, we have free will and can act with purpose, and if we focus on the 'wishes' that make us feel good, it can lead to us making plans and to actions that allow us to change the world around us - hopefully for the better. It's up to the universe to behave randomly, while we got stuff to do.

I weigh up the pros and cons of cycling. Major pros being health benefits, physical and mental, and a major con being risk to health by being hit by a car...
I take every reasonable precaution like avoiding roads where cycle paths exist, using tech. like mirror and radar, not listening to music while I ride and staying alert, especially when on the few roads I ride on. And never trusting any car driver to do what you think he / she should do.
Then I consider the risk of mishap to be acceptably small and the pros then overwhelmingly exceed the cons.
Also knowing how to use the front brake hard has saved me more than once !

It is a good point to look at how if you do not have confidence in yourself, or you are fearful during an activity, then you should not be doing it for your safety and the safety of others. Maybe baby-steps can build confidence if you have the patience to take them all.
The only amulet I have now is to try remembering that it is better to be going too slow and wish you were going faster, than to be going too fast and wish you were going slower, but I have only had that for a few years, I certainly did not have it the first fifty years I was here.

Perhaps there are occult and taboo practices among us. I bet there are.
I read all of the posts… so that I would leave no stone unturned here. No offense intended - most of the advice was the same old useful crap.
As a child I was taught to pray and learned how do it. I try to humble myself.

Sometimes I find myself in a situation that makes me feel vulnerable. Usually it's traffic, but sometimes it remoteness or weather. These are situations I put myself in voluntarily, in the course of some adventure or event. While that's not something I want to do 24x7, it is compelling for some reason. Vulnerability is empowering. It's like experiencing vulnerability strips away the facade, lays mortality right out there in plain sight where it should be. Not to be melodramatic, but I think you find out something about yourself when you're truly vulnerable.
Maybe it's the willingness to put myself in a vulnerable position, to achieve some goal or experience, that's powerful.
Is that in any way related to spirituality?
