Made the switch to tubeless today. Went with Pirelli tires - tough to get on and off the Bontrager carbon wheels. Yes, off as well as I initially put them on in the wrong rotational direction. Levers required both ways.

Too tired to do another club ride today so I went to explore some trails I haven't been to since before the most recent rain. These are horse trails so some get destroyed by rain but some are ok. I thought about climbing the 5 mile fire road but didn't have the energy.
This one has a rut but still rideable.

The skinny singletrack on that ridge is getting hard to see. I came down it once and walked the scary parts.

The diagonal cut is the fire road I usually descend from the top. It was loose and rocky last time I was on it and I'm not climbing it today. It's 5 miles to the top.

I decided to go home and after descending a crazy, rock filled, sandy trail I had to walk a little climb where I could hear water and I was worried about getting wet but it was no big deal.

I live on the other side of those hills, (not the furthest one). Everything is so green, we haven't seen that in a long time.

I know they're not road pics but I hope some of you like seeing them.

I will try.

1. Paxlovid has FDA emergency authorization to reduce the risk of death and hospitalization in high-risk patients with COVID.
2. If we had this drug during the first year of the pandemic, it would have been a huge lifesaver
3. Current strains of covid cause minor disease, essentially now it's a bad cold (very contagious, but still just a bad cold), so the risk of hospitalization or death for someone with covid is similar to that of getting hospitalized with a cold. This has to do with viral replication sites, the early strains replicated in the lower respiratory tract and could trigger an immune response called ARDS (Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome) which requires you to be on a vent and may kill you. The current strains replicate in the upper respiratory tract.
4. Paxlovid is NOT a benign drug. It's a dirty drug with LOTS of drug-drug interactions and a decent amount of side effects.

So given the current strains, I would only suggest Paxlovid for a frail person who is at risk for being hospitalized from a cold. I ordered it a week ago on an 89 year old patient with a weak heart and diabetes. But if you are NOT frail, I advise against it.

That said, I don't think offering Paxlovid to someone with at least one risk factor is malpractice.

Ah, what a day! Cloudless skies! Bright sunshine! Mostly dry roads! Windy AF!!!

I think the wind built up while I was out, because it sure didn't seem to help much on the trip South, compared to how much it slowed the trip North. The last half of this route has two longish segments heading NNW, one of 2.5 mile and the other about 6 miles. Both times I was headed dead into the wind. Any time the road turned slightly one way or the other, I could feel the wind trying to blow me into the traffic lane or off the road entirely.

California was doing what California does in the winter - grow like mad to reproduce before the absence of rain dries you out for the year. These pics are from my usual stop in Portola Valley, by the Tesla facility on Deer Creek.

I wear a small tag around my neck with LSS’s mobile number and my name on it. Bracelets are naff. I have absolutely no faith that emergency personnel will bother to read anything on my body, so I always carry ID anyway. Whatever you get make sure it has the red medic-alert symbol on it.

definitely will have the phone # of the spouse on it. Always carried a few singles and my driver's license with me. Was hoping someone here might be an EMT and get an insiders view on where they look for this stuff. I don't know what naff means but I assume it's a negative.

I have a Road ID bracelet I put on my right wrist, and I carry my iPhone, my DL, insurance card, debit card, and a couple singles in a ziploc bag in my left rear jersey pocket. I don't know where EMTs look, having never needed to avail myself of their services.
