Addiction 2023.1

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It sounds like the sort of story you tell your Mom after you do something stupid.

That's the best way to choose a bike, new or vintage. If a bike doesn't speak to you, will you even ride it?

I really wanted that red and yellow Waterford with the aerobars on it but it was too big

A lighter bike would be nice for hilly occasions, and the Scott is likely around 17 lbs compared to 20.5 lbs of the Lemond. We shall see...

Same thing happened with Fusilli Jerry. A million to one shot!

It's a bicycle: carbon fiber, metal, rubber.

Of course this thing is just sitting there waiting for me to buy it. Definitely not set up for climbing though, I already have a couple of bikes with 42x23 low gears
and it's on the small side of my acceptable size range, so would need a high-rise stem

That code for, "His friend/big brother/little brother/sister shot him."

A bb gun would not normally do that. Only really old guns and certain types of long guns carry the possibility of discharge from dropping. And, in most of those cases they have to be dropped on the butt.

OMG, now this shows up. I've never ridden Zona before. Partial assembly required, 2 wheelsets, 3 handlebars (none of which I'd trust, but I have NIB C'dale alu bars in the garage), and I'd need to source a proper crankset, also needs headset bearings.

Back in the 70s, while hitch hiking west on Route 66, we passed a small plane that had recently landed on the highway. Route 66 was, surprisingly, a two lane road, with wide shoulders. The single lane, both ways, was the passing lane, and the shoulder was the slow lane. In those days before radar, the guy riding shotgun had binoculars to spot cops in the distance. v

Amazing what pops up in the memory. My cousin, and best friend growing up, had a dad who was and ex Marine and a current state highway patrolman. Why I don't know, but he would go down in the basement and shoot marbles at the wall with a slingshot. Probably target practice of some sort. Her took us down there with him one time. Only that one time. A marble ricocheted off the wall and grazed my neck, level with the adam's apple. That was the end of that. I imagine he was quite freaked out by that close call.

A cold, windy ride in the books. Yesterday's ride was hot and windy. I heard the cold front blow in last night.

That opinion explains your lack of passion, I guess. I don’t see my bikes that way.

You were in the ER? Nothing serious, I hope.

When I was about 15 a friend was shot in his eye by his little brother who admitted aiming for his face but though the BB would arc down and hit him in the body. He had a cataract and never regained sight in that eye afaik.

Seated next to this non-utilitarian object, while the mechanics diagnose a misfire on the SportWagen.

My wife has some issues going on. We are still here. Things are going to be okay, but will take a little time to get sorted out.

I got hit with a BB shot by a friend when I was a kid. It was from long range and didn’t hit me anywhere delicate, thankfully. Boys are dumb.

I hope she's ok, sounds scary.

I got sprayed with buckshot once when rabbit hunting years ago. I was far enough away that it just stung and didn't break the skin. I was not amused.
