Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

No- I also didn’t properly bed the pads most likely.

They’ve only got about 300 miles on them(outside). It started when I went on a gravel ride and has been happening since.

Supposedly there's a spray you can apply that helps with the bedding in proccess. I've never used it but it supposed to work pretty well. I just clean the disk with alcohol, clean the pads with alcohol if they're just dirty. I'll sand them if they are glazed. Then find a long hill and rebed them.

This is going to be a completely ****-ed up post, but whatever.

I’m dealing with a lot of conflict. I have this friend, who I have known since I was 15, lived with for a couple of years, but haven’t talked to much on the past 15 years or so.

He’s gay. Nothing wrong with that, and he always had an eye for younger-ish looking dudes. Think- 20 year olds that look 15 (15 years ago when I lived with him anyway). Anyway- in 2010 a couple of 15ish year old boys came forward about some bad **** he did. He lost his job as a sheriff’s deputy, lost his house, and spent 2 years in jail.

He gets out in 2013 and moves back home to attempt to pull his life out of the mess he made. I never thought he was a predator, just that he made some really bad decisions.

I last saw him 5 years ago for one of our friend’s 40th. He seemed fine, had a partner his age, we had a good time hanging out but didn’t really keep in touch.

On Monday- he got arrested and charged for a criminal sexual act with a 13 year old. This occurred 10 years ago almost immediately after he was released from prison. He was arraigned, released on bail and went home.

on Thursday, our friend (who’s 40th party it was where I last saw him) texted me that he’d committed suicide. That friend (who’s a cop) had stopped hanging out with him because of his behavior toward young men in the past year, and was really concerned for our mutual friend.

anyway- I feel guilty for being sad about him passing. I feel like I’m not supposed to be. It’s ****ed up.

Guilty for feeling sad about the suffering and death of a human being, someone you knew? Feel guilty about your carbon footprint or yelling at your kid or something!

Mourn him and regret the suffering of those he hurt.

Life doesn't provide us with black-and-white situations, or with people who are all good or all evil. He was your friend. You had a history with him. Shared experiences, etc. You can grieve for that while still acknowledging and deploring the bad acts. And in the end his demons did him in. If you didn't feel sad for him, you'd have to almost be inhuman.

Your relationship, and now loss, don't have anything to do with his sexual issues. That's not the part of him that you related to.

Longer club ride was over 80 miles with a bunch of climbs. I didn't want to do the whole thing so I drove part way into the route to meet a like-minded friend. Another friend would be waiting further up the road. First friend came late and went with a different ride and second friend decided it was too cold so when the 5 fast riders caught up to me I knew I was on the wrong ride.

They dropped me on the first climb but waited at the bottom of the following descent. One of them called the guy who said it was too cold to give him a hard time so I took off alone and managed to stay ahead of them for the next 2 climbs. We stayed together on some rollers until their break at Chronic Tacos. I had a taco and one of the guys came out with "churro bites" and passed them around. They were churros about the size of a tater tot. Tasty!

After that we did some more climb/descend until they turned off to climb a canyon and I would have slowed them too much so I went off on my own. Bumped into a friend I haven't seen in a while and had a chat then heading back to my car into a headwind I picked up a wheelsucker. He hung on for a few miles and then came up alongside me to let me know he would be pulling off to go home and he thanked me for the pull. Ok.

The fact that your friend had so little self control that he would do the same thing he was imprisoned for immediately upon his release is sad, indeed, and deserving of your sympathy, because clearly he needed professional help. Just don't blame yourself.
