Opinions on my new Colnago, what would you do?
Just picked this up from a buddy today. He paid $140 for a storage locker and this was in it. We were both happy with the deal and I did tell him I wasn’t sure if it’s future. It does fit and I’d love to ride it, but the history of these cracking make me nervous. So what would you guys do, ride or sell? Or am I worrying about nothing?

I guess I would faint..... anyhow.... First, congratulations!!!! then, there is word on the interweb, that the ones with Master-like profiled top tubes didn't crack. I'm not sure what I see on yours are profiles or shine, but the round ones seem thinner tt.
I guess, parting it out would be good and fast money (is that a Grammo titanium stem?? that alone worths the whole warehouse 2 times), but based on your concern, others might be reluctant to buy it as well (at least for some normal price) as a solo frame.
I would ride it, but its just 1 opinion from someone who does not have hordes of other nice interesting bikes.
For the concern itself.... 1., its like the Alans (but on a lower risk scale) it either brakes or not. 2, if it brakes, what do you lose? Few hundred "fell out profit" for the frame, but can most likely still sell the rest.
Lattz (the super envious)
addition: in other thread a similar, but definitely profiled is shown, you can ask the user if he still has it, and what are the experiences https://www.bikeforums.net/road-cycl...o-bititan.html

I'm not into disc brakes, so I would flip this.

Luckily I bought it from a friend. I did some cleaning and found a crack.

Bummer
I'd say that the frame is toast
Lots of cool frames out there that those components would pair up nicely with
Keep the fork, that's worth a bunch on its own, as I'm sure you know

I am definitely not a fan of low spoke count wheels, and those take it to an absurd extreme.
The one good thing about disc brakes is that they seem to have cured the industry's radial spoking fetish.

I guess the double down tube did not do much to strengthen the joints at the BB.....

I couldn't believe your luck finding a Campy Record equipped Colnago Titanio with a Grammo stem. for $150. All I could think was - WOW. Even with those bars, haha. After reading on I see you discovered the weld cracks. What a disappointment. I wonder how it came to be cracked? From my distance, and looking at the photo, it appears to be caused by frame stress at the welds caused by just everyday riding? It doesn't look like it was in a crash.
I've never heard of these twin downtube frames cracking at the welds before but, perhaps, it is a thing? Has anyone heard of this happening to other Titanio frames (cracking at the welds)?
If it was mine, and confessing to lusting over this model frame, I'd strip it down to the frame and try to find someone who can weld titanium, bring it back to life. But that's just me. I wonder if there is another 'me' somewhere around the US of A who would be just as obsessed as me - haha?
It is an extremely well equipped and built Colnago and those components all 'belong' together. Then again, those components would also suit any top of the range frame (preferably Italian) from that era. There may be some poor Colnago tragic out there that would take the frame off your hands for a small fee - even if it turned out to be wall art.
Good luck.

not sure the cause- might be inadequate argon purging- whatever, I have seen a few.
looked to buy one once and the fellow was initially indignant that I was claiming it was cracked. I suggested he place a side load on the cranks... " why did you make me do that, I broke it"

Its also interesting to read about your 'experiences' with that seller - some people will try anything.

I did run into a biker who bought one that was cracked. He had it repaired and repainted. Greater desire for the package and willing to run the risk.

In your shoes I would not repair or ride this frame and I love my two steel Colnagos, 2 Litespeeds and a Habanero. That repair would be expensive and these frames history of failures tell you this was not just a case of a Monday morning hung over or late Friday before a hot date weld job on that BB shell, it is a systemic welding/design frame problem just waiting to show itself and possibly in a very bad way.
