many/most of these were done by Miyata

this example looks relatively early; at a glance would guess ~1977

the cycle's fittings will be marked with date codes

there is a decoder guide here -

Date of Manufacture of Bicycle Components can be used to date a bike: component dating

I don't have the bike, just the pics, was trying to get info so I could decide if I want to grab it.

I was also guessing it was an earlier model. There seem to be big gaps in available Univega catalog years that I have been able to find?

from the Univegacatalogs wordpress site, seem close, but no years given:

blue not offered as color

specs for bike above:

Fork looks wrong on this one (but right on Turismo?) but does have "Silver Blue" as color option

If it's even in passable shape, it's worth grabbing. Even the low-end Univegas were pretty decent...not that I'm saying this one is or anything.

The subject bike looks identical to my 78 gran rally, including the fork, although mine is pearl white color. Tubing on mine is hi-ten. It's the lesser of the many bikes in my garage and yet somehow I am really excited about rebuilding it and riding it. Visually, it exudes C&V.

It's definitely late 1970s as the brand did not debut until late 1976 and they had upgraded to brazed-on top tube brake cable tunnels by 1980. In 1977 this model used Tange #10`, a double butted, hi-tensile tubeset. By at least 1980 they had gone to tretubi, double butted CrMo, so that's also a possibility. Regardless, whichever it is, you're looking at a hi-tensile fork and stays. If the seller will provide the seat post diameter, we can determine the tubeset. As previously noted, these were typically manufactured by Miyata, in which case we can determine the year from the serial number.
