Cantilever recommendation
A while back I bought a Bianchi Volpe 2017 with cantis (Shimano CX50's), and was disappointed with the braking (there's on old thread I started, but I thought it was best to start a new one now).
Anyway, I've replaced the front brake with an Avid SD7 V-brake and travel agent. Works great, but I couldn't replace the rear brake as there was no room under my rack for the travel agent. The rear canti actually does it's job ok (it was on the front I needed more stopping power). However, the brake pads on the CX50's are specific to that model and don't take standard road brake pads. I considered buying a CX70 which does take road pads, but they seem to be discontinued.
What to do? Ask the wise folks on BF of course!

Ah great, thank you. I've just ordered a Tektro CR720 and Kool Stop V-brake holders and inserts, which I'm hoping will be a good combo.

+1 on the Tektros. I have them front and rear with old, non-aero, Weinmann levers. They have plenty of stopping power, stay in adjustment, easy to set toe-in. Very satisfied with them. Rivendell was carrying them at the time. Figured it was a good bet they would work as advertised. They did.

Another +1 for the Tektros. Just got em' for my mtb. Assuming they fit in your application, they work great- far better than any of the other original cantilever / or v brake setups I've had over the years on the same bike. Very happy all around with them. price/looks/setup/function. All good.

so Mr imi, did you find an improvement in the end with the new pads? I find the all salmon coloured ones to work great and last a perfectly long amount of time.

I also am using the Salmon pads when I replace pads. A friend of mine has also said that rims last longer with Koolstop Salmon pads.
