Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Here’s another thought for you. Once you decide on “the car”, shop the DFW dealers. I saw the local Mazdadealer is discounting the CX5, for example. If you can get a better deal, you could buy here and pick it up on your next trip down and then drive it home.

I’ve bought several cars from out of town dealers, and either flew or drove to pick them up. Current car was brought from a Tulsa dealer.

I bet a deal could be done on this little honey.

The mullet of cars. All business up front, and a party out back. I bet a bike would even fit.

My buddy did that last year with his eTron, bought it from some dealer on the Cape- went out and picked it up and drove it home. Cost him less than his Honda Pilot after credit, rebate and dealer discount.

Nyet. I ordinarily don't even consider mowing mine until it has dried and the clippings can disperse widely and settle into the turf evenly.

However, just this week I had the LSS mow the small side lawn because that's where I've been taking ambulatory Venus to relieve herself and it was giving me the heebie-jeebies to walk out there with her in the long, wet growth. I had little choice, it's been foggy and wet for a week, had to just pick a day and get 'er done.

My wife just needs to decide what’s important to her. Not having a car payment or having something better than basic. She deserves more than basic but she’s also in charge of the money situation and knows what gets paid when and where. I’m a bystander.

I want her to be happy, and not to have buyer remorse.
In an extreme seller's market, it may actually make better economic sense to fix the old car and wait till next year. We went through this with Mrs.GeneJockey's beloved 2001 Sienna - we were facing several thousand dollars of potential work, on a car worth about the same number of thousands, or a bit less. But apart from not being able to get it smog certified, the car is in great shape, and Mrs. GJ loves it. So we were planning to drop the cash, when by sheer luck, the issue resolved itself.

Can confirm. My 2002 definitely did. Then I got the Dodge which doesn't even burn a quart over the 10,000 miles between oil changes. BTW, the 10,000 miles between changes is based on what it tells me it wants.

265,000 miles, no A/c and the a/c wasn’t even part of the price to fix the car. If it was in better shape I would agree but at this point it’s like a boat and I don’t want to sink anymore money into it.

my brother has a 2015 that burns oil as well. Maybe they finally got it fixed with the new engine.

Yeah, that's different. Mrs. GJ's Sienna still hasn't passed 140,000 miles and it's almost 21 years old, and everything works fine. It just wouldn't pass Smog because of a reading on the engine monitor thingie - catalyst 'Not Ready', after months of driving. Checked several times - "Not Ready". We were going to do the weird and hard-to-comply-with Drive Cycle, and I checked it again, and BINGO! "OK".

But actually broken, and at 265K - probably time to say goodbye.

I’d say you got your money’s worth out of that one. Time to shave the VIN and leave it on the side of the road someplace.
