Nice! I could never get used to that thing. Did it still have the Park 10mm socket on it?

It did NOT, but the socket was loose in the box.
Senior moment, I didn't connect the dots.
Will have JulesCW grab it for me, when he looks through the contents.

The handoff...

The Box 'o Crap has been handed off from OTS (on the left) to me... appropriately this was done in a ceremony in the Room o' Crap -- the parts room of our local bike co-op where we both volunteer. Yes, we're surrounded by crap most Saturday mornings, yet still desired to be part of the BOC experience... perhaps we have a problem... Nah!

Box 'o Crap on its way east again...

Here's a sneak peek of the box when I opened it:

Lots of intriguing possibilities lurk within... I had to ponder an entire new build around a set of hubs in the BOC, but ultimately resisted. Below is my take:

The world's finest crappy derailleur -- it works great! A way for me to always see where I've been... Mirryclulous! A venerable chain tool made in the UK -- I'll brew up some Earl Grey and get to work. The LAB patch so I can grumpily proclaim "I remember when it was LAW." And last, but not least, I have captured the loose 10 mm socket that tried to escape the clutches of OTS -- it has been given a stern talking to and will reunite with its parent tool soon.

Wandering along, the BOC goes east today, headed to asherer.

I was sorely tempted to assess a not-vintage! penalty on the Nexave and Altus derailleurs. Glad I didn't and that they found new homes.

Not vintage, true, but will do a grand job in equipping a vintage MTB or touring bike for a new life as a commuter. This one is going to go onto my Schwinn High Sierra MTB -- the winter commuter which is slowly corroding to bits -- lots of salt on the roads Jan-Feb, not much washing of the bike... so the High Sierra gets sacrificed,

Well I'm twitchy with anticipation. I started throwing parts at the Ted Williamns frime I bought from nlerner and I need lots of crappy bits for it, it's going to be our eldest's NYC commuter replacing a singlespeed Bikes Direct number. He's decided that gears may be a good idea after all. Funny what happens when one passes 30...

If BFisher is in, gotta do the same. I think we may have been BOC neighbors a few times now.

MH, I can help lengthen the list.

The exalted container was schlepped to the door by my surprisingly jovial mail carrier yesterday: “Be careful, it’s heavy!” said he. Here’s the reveal. I’ve had a quick look and spotted some very useful bits.

Be advised that I won’t be able to sort everything and get it moving again until the end of the week or possibly the following Monday. Apologies for being a speed bump - I’ll put some fine crap in as penance.

ascherer , I'm glad it finally arrived. I was becoming concerned that a postal worker in NY somewhere had either gotten a hernia or was fixing up all of his buddies' crappy bikes and the BOC was in peril...

What a week! I measured my free time in spoonfuls.

As I could I pored through all the craptasticness and tried some bits in real-time on Ted:

Perfect!

Not 100% certain this will work but a great addition to the inventory if it doesn’t. Waiting on a proper clamp to arrive.

Today I was able to sort the rest.

Skewers, cable guide, and shifter cable (I grabbed two, one’s hooked up) plus the sticker are all for Ted.
Shortie fenders are for my wife’s Moto, thanks to whoever added them.
The busted Simplex will donate it’s wingnut to a lever I have that needs it.
The pump head will let a long Silca with a bigger head fit my Mercian, and the other bits fill some gaps as more projects emerge. A fine haul!

I added some solid components. @Sactown_Albert PM me your details and I can haul it to the post office tomorrow.

The Box is on the move to the next player! The USPS person was so impressed with the savings of shipping 26.5 pounds of crap flat rate that she looked up to the cost as a regular parcel: $91 uninsured and $110 insured. The more you know…

Craptastic Haul!

Had fun in my first go round. Repaired a broken Simplex RD with some spare pulley wheels I had from another broken Simplex RD I had. Grabbed the Weinmann brakes and the t-shirt for a sewing project. Took some time to repair a few of the bits that had come apart. Used zip ties and bags to try to bring some order to the crap. Removed some rough and/or broken items to make room for better and more varied crap. Added a mix of big and small items to make things interesting. Had to brush up on my Tetris skills to get the box back together. Box is on its way to Bfisher tomorrow.

The reveal.

My take is the upper pile. The below are in need of repair, orphans, or beyond crap that were removed to make room for some less crappy stuff.
