New hobby

Hi all. My wife and I live in interior Alaska with six sled dogs and a couple of new mountain bikes. Apparently I had completely forgotten how fun it is to ride a bike after years and years of gas powered and dog powered fun.

I guess I did what so many do...left bikes behind as "kid stuff" a long time ago. I have been riding regularly again for a few months now and don't intend to stop!

Thanks 10 Wheels. I'm familiar with Texas too. We left Austin 10 years ago after living there for five years.

Welcome, to me, cycling is so much more than a hobby. I will refrain from calling it a necessity, but it is, at least, on the cusp of being that. When I get frustrated, angry, displeased, out of sorts in any way, I get on a bike, outside, and pedal that angst away. If I am in a good frame of mind, I get on a bike and maximize that feeling of well being. I have chronic spinal issues that have become much more of a problem, with my biggest fret being that I will no longer be able to ride my bikes. No matter, if I can, I will get to 4,000 miles this year, which will put me at 50,000 from ages 61 to 71. Actually getting to that number is important to me, already 580 miles in January, and as of today, 2/6, I will be at the 700 + level.
Reading of someone reconnecting to cycling, always gladdens me, especially when the person is an older individual that quit bikes years ago. There is nothing else that brings out the child in me like bicycling.

Thanks delbiker1. I appreciate your thoughtful note. I can relate, in that when I feel un-focused, jumbled thoughts, etc.. a bike ride always helps. You are right that it is more than a hobby, and I believe riding bikes will be a very important part of my future.

Yesterday we rode our fatbikes around a frozen lake trail in the sunshine at about zero degrees. Nice day!
