The kindness of the Midwest (DeRosa project search pt II)

I got a message in three parts.

are you still in Missouri? Do you eat brisket? Can you bring something to drink and chat bikes?

I don’t know. Maybe that’s four parts.

wrapped up my wine class and headed over to this gentleman‘s house with a case of half filled bottles. Some very high end.

The bike collection was amazing. Who has three Cinelli‘s? A Masi from the mid-70s that had been painted in the mid 80s. Bikes I wasn’t familiar with, Mondonico?*

brisket over tater tots, smothered in a red wine/mushroom gravy.

Talked about the difference between a Syrah and a Petit Sirah. Athena and Chorus groups.

he said he knows that guy selling the 73 Derosa replica. He said he wasn’t going to sell that to anyone. He just likes to tease.

He excused himself for a moment, said he’s gonna go to the shed and for me to stay there.

“Instead of buying a 73 replica, why don’t you just buy this 73?“

55.5cm2. Just my size.

he told me he got this in Italy. Paid more in airline fees to bring it back than it cost him to buy it. It had BMX handlebars, maybe it was used by a paper boy. We think it was originally white.

The rattle-can paint job is so incredibly sloppy - but we marvel how the previous owner took the time to fill in the flutes on the seat post and pantagraph Cranks. We think the color was originally white.

I gasped when the garage door opened.

There she is. And now mine.

Cool stuff
