Stealth Paramount????
Cruising the racks at the Bike Exchange I spied this ragamuffin that had just arrived. The stickers and flat pedals couldn't hide the thoroughbred underneath. Barely legible from the side but clear on the front forks the magic words Paramount. No Schwinn markings though. Some kind of knock off? Then I remembered that there was a non Schwinn version , the Waterford Paramount which I think this is.
The serial number is on the head tube and reads 1A 02973. It carries all Campi - front and rear derailleurs, crank, brakes, 8 speed brifters, and seat post. The bars are 3ttt.
I am going to de sticker it and clean everything. The white paint seems to have extensive craquelure but I don't want to repaint it.
The rear wheel is toast, a spoke pulled out of the rim leaving a pretty big hole but I have a selection of wheels to replace it with .
Check out the pics please and give me any additional info that you might have. I would like to know the year and if anyone knows of a catalogue scan that would be great. As is the bike weighs a little under 24 lbs.
I couldn't read the name on the stem . Does anyone know what it is?
Thanks everyone

It appears to be a Paramount PDG with uni-crown fork and a few upgrades......what does the sticker on the base of the seat tube say?
In any event a very nice riding bicycle and nothing to sneeze at.
T-mar will correct me if I am wrong and most likely help you to cypher the serial numbers.
Best, Ben

Looks like a 91? See right-most page eight rows down and the surrounding pages:

That reminds me of my college days at UCLA. Bicycle theft was rampant, and one defense was to uglify or otherwise disguise a good bike.

Stealth Paramount
I finished up the PDG Paramount today and took some pics . Weight all up just under 24 lbs. I had to change the wheels as the rear has a spoke that tore out of the rim. I used a set of Navic Open Pro's on 105 hubs and found that the Campi 8 spd cassette wouldn't work so used a Shimano Hyperglide 13-25 instead. I wasn't sure if it would index to the Campy brifters but it seems to work fine. Peeling off the old stickers was easy and there was no hidden damage underneath. The Campi rear derailleur cable adjustment screw was broken but instead of trying to fix it I rummaged around in the bins at the shop and found a matching part in good nick. the front brake also gave me trouble. the cable clamp was frozen. I removed the assembly and soaked it in penetrating oil overnight then used a long shank hex wrench to break it loose. Rather than putting the bolt back , which had the recessed hex head damaged, I fitted another one in it's place and now all is right.
I am a little uncertain as to whether I should have stripped off the Campi group to sell separately . I could probably have used all 105 to build it up like it came from the factory. hopefully we will find a buyer that appreciates it as it is and will pay a decent price for the package. It really is a nice bike.

Be careful with that front tire -- unless that is an optical illusion, it looks like the bead is about to pop off
