I bought this 2018 Giant Sedona comfort/adventure bike to replace an old mountain bike. I like the upright Seating for viewing the landscape and safety as I ride for pleasure now. The wide tires (1.95") and suspension seatpost make for a comfortable ride thats sometimes entertaining as the cheap seatpost spring catapults the rider up off the seat in some situations. The 3 x 7 speed drivetrain pretty much covers any scenario I'm likely to encounter even with its 32 lb bulk.

As you can see, This bike is old school with its 26" wheels, Rim brakes, Center kick stand, and 7 speed freewheel hub. And I like it! Speaking of old school, When I was 4 years old I sat in that lawn chair in the background, I'm 65 now.

I've posted this before, but I've been playing a game with myself to see how light I can make this rather heavy bike.It's down to 20.8 pounds as pictured (minus the water bottle) and that's where it's likely to stay. If I felt like throwing money at it I'm sure it could go lighter, but I kind of like it the way it is - I might even go back to the original steel fork.

Steel will always have more weight but your's looks nicely trimmed down.

I did a 20 mile ride today on my 1993 Bridgestone MB 1. It's light for an MTB and super responsive. It is a such a fun bike to ride with a good set of 26 x 2.0 tires (Schwalbe marathon supreme). It was also one of my better Craigslist finds. The bike was a garage queen. Other than the tires, grips, pedals, bar ends, and brake shoes, this bike is pretty much original.

Nothing but Pucker brush, bell worms, sage bunnies, speed goats, Mule deer,
yeller dogs, kit fox and lots of badgers, and some feral horses/donkeys to see.

This is looking East from the Trinity Mtn Range, at approximately 7500' elevation,
at the Humbolt Mtn Range, the highest peak on the left is Star Peak almost 10,000' elevation.
The light color strip is I-80 going EB at about 4000'.

Looking SW into the Trinty Mtn range, approximately 6000' elev,
as far as you can see is Decomposed Granite Rock and sand trails,
and the road is going down into the creek bottom, for over a mile.
At the bottom the road forks, takes you to the bottom of the ridge line showing
and then up a very steep hill to a road that goes South bound around the ridge top, and the back side of that far ridge line.

This is looking South into the upper end of Lovelock Valley, in the notch between the rounded hills, is the upper end of the valley, valley elevation about 4000',
I am about 6000' in the Trinity Mtn range.

I am waiting on the snow to melt down on the Humbolts, (the biggest white patch) under Star Peak, rode goes thru the middle of that snow patch and angle up to the top ridge line, every July 4th, I go up there for a ride WHEN the road opens up.

I have over 6000+ square miles like this to ride just around here..............

I'd like to try something like that on some of the smoother trails around here. I last had a rigid steel mtb in the early 90s. I have an enduro type bike now which is great for the rough stuff but it's pretty heavy to use as a "gravel" bike.

I thought a light hardtail could work when friends go fire-roading. Either that or I should just get a gravel bike.

gave an old trek new life by losing the drop bars and adding riser bars, wald 867s and a comfortable saddle. still light. but a totally different ride now. also friction shifter for the rear for the time being.

also took the aluminum fork off and put an uncut carbon fork on. used the whole length to get the bars where i wanted for a nice upright ride. looks a bit goofy but thats ok. its comfortable and easy to ride. not gonna break any land speed records tho.

That's the tallest stack of spacers I've ever seen! Are you sure it's safe? There has to be a recommended maximum. I guess if you're gentle....

I used to worry about this bike and that was with an aluminum steerer. Sold it last year.

yea, I talked to a local bike shop, was going to cut it down and use a higher rise stem but he said it was fine like that if I could stand the looks, in fact, the adjustable stem was probably more dangerous than the steerer tube so I'll probably swap that out next. It's really heavy also.

The adjustable stem isn't doing anything a straight stem wouldn't do, anyway. Good luck!

2022 Aethos 52cm. I built her from the frame up. Roval Alpinist CLX wheels with Vittoria Corsa 23mm tires...yup I like 23's. Ultegra derailleurs R8000 and 105 R7000 shifters, TRP mech disk calipers with Sram rotors, 11-28 cassette, Ultegra Crank 50/34/165, Dura Ace BB, Assioma Uno pedals. She flies and holds speed very well.
I'm 66 but think and feel I'm 36...f getting old...not going to do it, ever.

Growing up, there was a Corvair van parked in my backyard for years. My dad had intended to put a V8 in it, but the project never happened, and it was eventually towed out by someone he sold it to. In my lifetime, I never saw it run.

My friend's dad had a Corvair van when I was 14 or 15. He would take a few of us on a ride with a big bump where he could get the front wheels off the ground.

I had a 66 Corvair in my 30s, wish I still had it. I also had a 64 convertible which I never drove. Someone gave it to ne after it had sat in a field for years. I started on it and spent some time trying to make it roadworthy but I was burned out from finishing a similar project on a 67 Mustang which had taken my free time for months.

I gave up and sold it.

They had a mid engine kit. A buddy put one together and it got stolen a week after he finished. Silly fast, 350 sat in the back seat.

2006 Specialized Allez comp cro-mo. Tig welded steel. Light (for a steel bike) and nimble. Rides like a dream. Had it repainted black about 10 years ago. Running Ultegra 11 speed with new FSA light crank. Mavic wheels, Rido saddle (old but still the most comfy saddle I've ever ridden). Also has King titanium cages, Ritchey Superlogic seatpost and a Mount Zoom 90mm stem. Comes in just a tick over 18lbs with pedals. I'm sure I could hit low 17lbs or high 16lbs with Hunt wheels, carbon handlebar, and full carbon fork - but it seems silly to spend $2k+ just to shave a pound. It's the rider that could lose some weight!
