As much as I like the SF Bay Area folks, I want to chat about local conditions, rides, and whatnot. So pull up a cup of your beverage of choice, and let's talk!

Okay, I'll talk to myself. I took an easy ride yesterday, from Uniontown Arcata to Sunny Brae, back to Valley West, and home. It was chillier than the last few days, but gorgeous. Is it me, or Arcata drivers a little more reasonable and patient than most others?

I live in the Bay Area, but my Mom lives up in Eureka. I plan on visiting her around March for a few days and I'd love to bring my bike up and get at least one ride in. I'll probably be visiting her at least a couple times a year.
I'm riding a Santa Cruz Stigmata with 38mm Specialized Pathfinder Pro's. Road riding, fire road, trail riding or all of the above are my interests. I made some routes in Strava just to play around but I would mind any recommendations for good routes.

There are a bunch of trails in the McKay Community Forest, but I've never been there, and it's still a work in progress.
There's the Eureka Waterfront Trail, which you can take north to south, then hop over the 101 to Elk River Rd. and up to the Headwaters Forest, which has only hiking trails, but you could take a picnic lunch (stop at the North Coast Co-Op and grab something) out there.
Here's a Ride With GPS search for Eureka. HTH.

It has been longer than I care to admit since I've ridden anywhere near your neck of the woods. But I have very fond memories of riding over the Leggett hill (south to north - hey, I'm weird) the Avenue of the Giants (I have to do that again), and out Hwy 36 to Bridgeville. And yes, I rode Hwy 101 as well - that was less fun, especially on the two-lane/little to now shoulder parts. Sure is a beautiful part of the state.

This is a really nice article about some women taking a bikepacking trip from McKinleyville to Lacks Creek.

And suddenly it's February. After reaching a chilly 36F last night, it's supposed to get down to 27F tonight, and into the low 30's & high 20's for the next few days. I took all my air plants off their tree last night, and will likely leave them in their buckets for the rest of the week.
